Another ~9,000 Microsoft layoffs today. My sympathies to those whose careers are taking an undeserved detour! And to those remaining, whose day to day at Microsoft now involves looking over their shoulders too much

“The reason I thought of retiring”:
- death of a friend, CFO of my best client, at 57, heart-attack in office parking lot.
- executive who offered me a promotion died of a heart-attack in shower, at 62.
- my former mentor, who retired early, was diagnosed with a terminal disease 5 years later.
