I’ve released a tool to sketch and edit phylogenetic trees!
yawak.jp/PhyloWeaver/

Load a Newick file and intuitively add/remove/resize branches.
Useful for quick conceptual trees, extracting subtrees, or turning ideas into Newick.
PhyloWeaver – Interactive phylogenetic tree editor
Edit and visualize phylogenetic trees directly in your browser. PhyloWeaver lets you interactively rearrange tree topologies and export high-quality figures for publications and presentations.

"...the debate has perhaps revealed more about the effects of phylogenetic modeling approaches, data curation, and their intersection on the results of phylogenomic analyses than about animal relationships."
I suppose it is natural to have the comparison point by “human” in discussing the earliest divergence with metazoans. Consider the source! That aside, another marker post in the Porifera-or-Ctenophora first (divergence) is fun to see. www.science.org/doi/10.1126/...

#Nudivember

It's slug season, so here's another weird mollusc: hooded nudis, possibly Melibe leonina.

These were snapped in 2012, diving out of God's Pocket resort near Vancouver Island.

We went to "Hooded Nudi Bay" and were worried we might not see any. Saw one, then...

Did you know the 1916 paper naming "carcinization" is available online?

It uses the description of a hermit crab, Porcellanopagurus, to discuss evolution of crabbiness from noncrabbiness, as below 🧪🦀🦑

But...this is not the first time the morphology was noticed 1/3
