this is deeply ghoulish, but it would also have been possible pre-AI - you could equally lie to elderly relatives using photoshop. the issue isn't just gen AI as a technology but the marketing and cultural trends around bypassing death, AI's universal applicability, deprioritising truth etc
The comments on this are all about how sweet it is and I feel insane. Using AI to make fake memories of your grandma with dementia and telling her they happened and then filming her reaction

I think within about a year most social media will be unusable because of AI so you are better off making small communities on Discord and translating that to IRL friends.

it's crazy that 500 years ago, you would see the ruler of your country maybe once in your life and hear whispers that they're the Sun God, but now with social media, you get to see on a daily basis that they're the most unhinged, idiotic, and unhappy person you know

Economics may be complex and all that but the stuff you buy today costs a lot more than it used to even a few years ago because companies raised prices blaming “inflation,” posted record profits and never brought prices down. If “inflation” doesn’t ever recede for the consumer that’s a problem!

TIME magazine is owned by Marc Benioff, owner of Salesforce, who literally ran an AI agents puff piece about his ow company in the magazine. I’m unsurprised he thinks a bunch of grifters are person of the year, he thinks they’re cool
Just wait until you see Time’s Person of the Year…😱😭

If I’m understanding this correctly, X is owned by a white nationalist who pays poor people of color in developing countries to pretend to be working class white Americans to scare other white Americans into being afraid poor people of color from developing countries are going to ruin America?

Twitter pays people based on engagement (views, retweets, comments, etc). It appears that many MAGA accounts are based abroad and they use AI technology to generate low-effort rage bait.
My guess is that this will get worse as AI tech improves. For instance, fake videos of minorities doing crime.

when I was young, i used to wonder how people like this would fare in life, as they didn't seem suited for gainful employment. it turns out, the internet allowed them to accumulate a massive audience of similar idiots, enriching them and turning them into a presidential advisor

i wish i could have been in the room when they were brainstorming how to solve the housing crisis and someone raised their hand and said "what about 50 year mortgages?"
