I have made great progress on my RP2350 powered open source brushless motor (and industrial stepper) controller! This board supports up to 53v max, 30+A peak (depends on thermals), and is designed so anyone can order them from JLCPCB. I also just added USB-PD for 100W at 20V via USB-C!

Open source has always been a huge part of robotics, and this feels more true now than ever, with a proliferation of innovative open-source hardware and software platforms that have made robotics more accessible and dynamic than ever before.

Today, I have been working on a controller for the Giant Unicorn Hat. Have written a function to move the powered fadder to a set position, using a @pimoroni.com motor 2040, running CircuitPython to monitor/control the faders and the NeoTreilis.

Just wrote about using Pixi for ROS 2 development.

pixi.sh + robostack.github.io simplifies dependency management across ROS 2 distributions while supporting both conda and PyPI packages in a single tool.

pretty cool launch system lmao, still bespoke (and ros) but at least it's actually usable

> Rather than fixing an inherently broken solution, I decided to make a RAP - a ROS abandonment proposal :)

The biggest driver of robotics innovation over the last couple of years hasn't been anything clever. It's just been people making cheap robots easier to use. And that's a good thing; we have all the tools we need for a robotics revolution, we just need to actually get people out there using robots.

@arturo182.bsky.social was there a parts related reason you stopped selling the blackberry style keyboards/ featherwing? Or would it still be possible to fabricate a batch?

Robotics and AI are revolutionizing the economy.

Who benefits? Who gets hurt? How do we make the new technologies benefit ALL, not just the few.

That is the major economic issue of our time.

I figured out how to get the bucket actuator attached!!!! I'm super happy to have made this progress on it!
I had some counterbalancing help and I was able to stand in the bucket with nothing breaking! :]

Making it this easy to run complex robot simulations took >4 years. But the investment into Pixi and @RoboStack pays off - now you can start the new @GazeboSim / Turtlesim on macOS with a simple `pixi run start`. 🚀

In my last premortem, I imagined user actions that would damage the robot's PCB.

These new 3 cm² should protect it from:
-Flipped batteries
-Wrong AA battery types

The robot keeps working once the mistake is sorted. No blown fuses to change.
