I am thrilled that my paper on machine learning in science and the myth of theory-free inference has been accepted for publication in Erkenntnis. The paper remains available for download as a preprint through the archives. philsci-archive.pitt.edu/26075/1/Andr...

this is a good example of how people get good at saying things that sound reasonable when the core underlying belief is "i support the ritual public sexual humiliation of children"
I'm sorry, but there absolutely ARE legitimate concerns.

A kid with XY chromosomes who identifies as female but hasn't medically transitioned in any way is a trans kid. And THAT SPECIFIC trans kid probably should not be playing on the girl's basketball team despite their identification as female.
Buttigieg said parents have legitimate concerns.

To be clear: If you cannot be relied on to unequivocally defend transgender kids, you can’t be relied on to defend anyone or anything.

which historical philosophers do you think would've written their own wikipedia pages?

You should not have to prove you're an adult, and indeed should not be required to be an adult at all, to send private messages. This is the most obscenely tyrannical part of this whole thing. Underage people have a right to speak, a right to privacy, and a right to private correspondence.

Recent arrivals. Yellow Dusk by @rosenovick.com and Maintenance Art by Grant Maierhofer are new releases from @sublunary.bsky.social, with the latter arriving in the mail just as I was jabbering online with the author about Samuel Delany's lozenges. Age of Blight by Kristine Ong Muslim is terrific.

an embarrassing thing about the book is as a philosopher i am supposed to believe in the principle of charity but this continues a long tradition me dunking on william carlos williams unfairly
i wrote yellow dusk in late 2021, as i was right in the middle of realizing i was trans. the poem is about that, and about communication and imagination and the unquenchable desire to be Known. it asks obsessively what a poem is and might be. in it i name myself

I've finally managed to take the time to dive into Toshiya Tsunoda & Taku Unami's field recording project known as 'Wovenland'. There are currently 3 Wovenland releases from 2018, 2020, and 2024. Anyone into #fieldrecordings should dedicate some attention to this outstanding collaboration. [1/9]

the adaptationist programme
Dogs have been selectively bred for so many millennia to be best friends to humankind that any of their behaviours can be safely assumed to be adapted to that end. Licking your own butthole and stinking up the house? That's what friends do I suppose.

I quite like Sandy Boucher's metaphilosophical work (including his latest paper linked below), but I side with Rose on this one: structuralism and functionalism are better understood as explanatory strategies in biological science rather than as van Fraassian philosophical stances. #philsci #HPBio

hi everybody! if you're an academic philosopher and would prefer your colleagues didn't produce propaganda which furthers the trump administration's attempt to eradicate transgender people from public life, consider reading/signing this open letter about it!
