Finally, some useful cycling research. Now let's put actual restrictions on car use and stop pretending "build it and they will come" is a foolproof development strategy. Most of UK is not getting cycling infrastructure so focus on habitual drivers and make the roads quieter

Improving cycle infrastructure and public transport has little impact on car use, new review finds
These non-coercive measures need to be combined with measures such as higher driving costs or reduced car access to have an effect

If you see people raising #flags , film them. Time on their hands when they likely should be actively seeking work as agreed by claiming job seekers allowance. The physical ability to climb lamp posts, whilst claiming incapacity benefit. Buying flags but exploiting food banks. Vandals not volunteers

I never thought I'd agree with Reeves but Cycle to Work has always been a grift and not fit for purpose. The people thst need it most can't access it. People that can usually buy a weekender but continue to drive to work. Support grass roots bike refurbishment. www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2025...

Friend asks for a free bike. I have bikes. Serviced, cleaned, resprayed bike. Friend gets free bike from me. Friend doesn't say thanks. Friend isn't a cyclist (habitual driver) and actually just wanted a bike for one social event. To fit in. Lesson learnt.

Since the war began, the Israeli crackdown has hit the West Bank industry and economy hard, forcing bars, restaurants and hotels to close.

The dregs of society that can barely draw a symmetrical red cross are scrawling their racially motivated tags on roundabouts and most councils are not bothering to remove them. One of Britain's leading artists creates a satirical humanitarian social comment and the state can't remove it fast enough.
"Let's be clear, this is the destruction by the State of a work by an important artist which is critical of Government policy. Britain ought to be standing against autocracy, not for it": me to the New York Times. www.nytimes.com/2025/09/10/a...

The building was built as a pastiche following a genocide of a native population. A sanitised white facade for an unjust regime. It might have metamorphosised into its most honest form of despot signalling yet.
Anyone who has been inside the White House—I’ve visited there more than 15 times over the years—can tell you how horribly gaudy, garish, tasteless and cheap-looking these once-beautiful rooms have become thanks to Trump.

Widening an existing footpath to create a neighbouring cycle lane from a small town to a rural college to make it safer for students. But as always Dull Daily Fail manage to not mention the college at all, but are concerned about the cost and the temporary traffic lights. Jeremy Clarkson syndrome.

Where do you think the Rockup cyclists will be cycling? On roads. What do you think they'll be wearing? Lycra. Who do you think they'll be slightly inconveniencing? Car drivers. Who will shout abuse at them because of the BS they've read in your newspapers? Car drivers. Your hypocrisy is hilarious.

Is there no self reflection amongst Hull Live hacks? You run a daily campaign of hatred towards cyclists. These are just normal people in a low income city trying to get to work, school or shops sustainably. You treat them with utter contempt with your pro-car bias. But a one-off charity ride...

Riding bikes is 10X more important than electric cars for reaching net-zero cities. And that’s just the climate emissions. Doesn’t include the massive public & personal cost difference, the air & noise pollution difference, the massive space difference, etc, etc. Via @theconversation.bsky.social
Cycling is ten times more important than electric cars for reaching net-zero cities
Active travel can help tackle the climate crisis earlier than electric vehicles – even if you swap the car for a bike for just one trip a day.

What if there is no cycle lane coming? That is reality for a lot of cities. So cycle now, in your own lifetime. It is nobodys job or gift to provide alternatives for habitual polluters. We just need to regulate them out of it. We did this with a smoking ban, and most people said it couldn't be done.
No. If you provide people with better alternatives, they'll use those.

People use cars so much right now because they feel they have to.
August 20, 2025 at 8:39 PM
Interesting. Do you label other groups as sub-species just by what they wear? If “toxic entitlement” were a unit of width (TE), a non polluting MAMIL cyclist on a bike measures around 0.2 TE versus a polluting car width at 1 TE: so habitual drivers must be 5× more toxically entitled. No?

OK, Hivemind, if YOU wanted to compile a YouTube playlist of cycling videos to show on Cycle To Work Day, which videos would you include?
Aiming for vids aimed at new cycle commuters & people who aren't hardcore cyclists. No "sufferfest" or "How I cycled up the toughest road ever!" type of vids.

When will UK acknowledge bicycle theft isn’t just petty? It’s organised crime. Gangs use vans, specific tools, fake online profiles to steal distribute and resell bikes nationally. It’s coordinated, repeat, and tied to wider criminal networks. No different to car theft. 🚲💰 #OrganisedCrime #BikeTheft

Active travel meeting etiquette advice: The person you insist on referring to as a MAMIL has commuted distance by bike as an adult and child daily for the last 40 years. You are an able bodied 25 year old using an illegal e-motorbike to travel less than a mile. Your insight is infinitely less valid.
