Smartest thing the government could do is give Dan a peership and get him involved in tax policy as a minister in some role. Maybe in reviving the Office of Tax Simplification as he mentioned in a recent FT article.
Reform UK is proposing a "Britannia card" that would let wealthy foreigners pay a £250k fee to move to the UK, and live here exempt from all tax on their foreign assets

What they don't say: it would cost the UK £34bn

People ask how this is possible, but everything he's doing now is stuff he could've done (and did) in 2016. He hasn't changed and the American public knew he hadn't changed and still voted for him.

Reform/Farage make ridiculous claims all the time but this might be the worst.

Ignoring everything else, if it was that easy to deport every single illegal immigrant dont you think any country anywhere in the world would've done it by now? How on earth would you know when you've even achieved this?

My feeling on AI/LLMs is it will end up the same as 3D printers:

When 3D printers were first announced, I remember people going overboard thinking it was the end of manufacturing and everyone would have their own mini factory.
There are a lot of critiques of LLMs that I agree with but "they suck and aren't useful" doesn't really hold water.

I understand people not using them because of social, economic, and environmental concerns. And I also understand people using them because they can be very useful.

Thoughts?

The reaction to this statement is probably the most surprising. Despite what people think, the messaging has been very consistent: A food/drink deal with the EU, tech deal with the US and some sort of renewables deal with China.

Now whether this is actually possible is a whole other discussion.
Don't have to read too much between the lines to see that ministers a) can see the EU/US trade off from space, not least because it was rehearsed multiple times in 2016-24 b) think it's an obvious one in Europe's favour.

Tesla's struggling stock just saw a dreaded 'death cross' that could signal further losses
It's Tesla's first death cross since May 2022, the early days of a brutal bear market sell-off.

Not too sure where the hypocrisy is here.

If 25% of Americans think they'd be better off working in manufacturing thats 85 million people. There's only 13 million people total working in US manufacturing currently.
This is quite fun.

“America would be better off if more people worked in manufacturing.”

• 80% of Americans agree
• 20% disagree

“I would be better off if I worked in a factory.”

• 25% of Americans agree
• 73% disagree
• 2% currently work in a factory

9:37 AM: Trump tweets "Great time to buy"

1:18 PM : Trump announces pauses on tariffs causing the markets to rocket

Good thing the SEC and all the financial regulators in the US are stronger than ever right?

US markets turn green (for now) when everyone on social media was expecting circuit breakers and a re-run of black monday.

Good rule when following the stock markets: If people who never talk about the markets suddenly come out with strong predictions expect the opposite to happen

If Corbyn won in 2019 we would be spending 2.5% of GDP on WASPI pensions instead of defence
No it's true if they had kept Corbyn as leader and he was PM now politics would be very different. Instead of austerity in the face of war in Europe we would have no austerity and a denial that war is happening at all

The issue with being a social media politician is you think you're more important than you actually are. Farage's ego was already well known, but Lowe thinking he had any leverage over him just because his tweets did well was absolute delusion.

Reform is Farage, like UKIP and the Brexit Party was.
NEW: Reform UK MP Rupert Lowe reported to police by party over alleged threats of physical violence against party chair Zia Yusaf - and has also been accused of bullying staff.

He denies claims, which come just 24 hours after he called Nigel Farage the “messianic” leader of a protest party.

Sad to see people on here who supposedly care about honest discussion freaking out over a headline.

Reeves didn't even mention Trump directly, all she talked about was how we need to sell ourselves more to attract investment.

I maintain the belief that there's too many massive egos for the right to achieve anything meaningful.

Badenoch, Farage and Cummings all see themselves as political geniuses that are the future of the country when in reality they're all useless for different reasons.
Cummings wants Musk to fund the "Start Up Party".

You'd need tens of millions to neutralise the brand toxicity of Dominic Cummings + the brand toxicity of Elon Musk

It didn't enter the field for the last General Election. It remains to be seen if it will turn up for the next one.

Once again, black don't crack.
No one asked for this superficial post, but gotta be the best a world leader has ever aged over 9 years.

If the British media cannot bring themselves to question Farage and the Tories over their blatant hypocrisy of cosying up to Tommy Robinson's number one fan Elon Musk while pretending they want nothing to do with him, then there is no hope for journalism in this country.
