An unexpected outage for iRecord and other Indicia systems this weekend means that you won't be able to add records to the websites. It is still possible to add records to the iRecord apps, but you won't be able to upload them until this is fixed 😞

Citizen science reveals host‐switching in louse flies and keds (Diptera: Hippoboscidae) during a period of anthropogenic change
A study of louse flies in the United Kingdom, Isle of Man, and Ireland found 212 different interactions between Hippoboscidae and their hosts, of which 70 were previously unrecorded. No louse flies ...

Have you seen lots of ladybirds flying around? Maybe some have come into your house?

At this time of year, ladybirds are moving around looking for a good place to spend the winter. On warmer, sunny days, large numbers may be seen flying in search of a suitable habitat 🐞

Great opportunity to present @pomscheme.bsky.social collaborative research with @sangerinstitute.bsky.social at #BGEconnects. DNA-based transformation will only be possible with continued national-scale sampling, curated archives, data infrastructure and collaboration with taxonomists.

@clairecarvell.bsky.social and @marakat.bsky.social talked about DNAbarcoding for large-scale #insect community biomonitoring: “DNA-based species discovery can indeed transform taxonomic uncertainty from a barrier into a structured pathway for improved biodiversity intelligence.”

A stunning celebration of Scottish hoverflies from @scottshanks.bsky.social 😊👏#InsectWeek @royentsoc.bsky.social
Hoverflies🪰 are some of our most frequent & important pollinators. We have approx 280 species in the UK. Different species utilise a wide variety of habitat niches with wildly different larval strategies from aphid predators to rot-hole filter feeders.
