Quite probably the most useful word I’ve learned all year.
Quanked [kwangkt]
(adj.)
- Overpowered by fatigue.
- Exhausted or reduced in strength, as by labor or exertion; fatigued; sleepy.

Origin uncertain

Used in a sentence:
“After sprunting all weekend, then frooncing to get to work on time, I’m well quanked.”

The scale read below 280 for the first time in probably decades this morning. I managed to resist celebrating by gaining it all back.

Exploding Star Orchestra's unique flavor of avant-garde jazz music is coming to the Walker. #TwinCitiesGeeks twincitiesgeek.com/2025/11/expl...
Exploding Star Orchestra Is Bringing Cosmic Jazz to Minneapolis’s Walker Art Center on December 5
The group, founded in 2005 by director and composer Rob Mazurek, will descend upon Minneapolis with an all-star group of musicians “in a flurry of arpeggios and stardust.”

*sigh* aren't we all...

I used to post a song a night on a previous social media account. Never knew if anyone ever listened, especially after I learned FB buried posts which were just links. Still, when I'm in *a mood,* I do like posting music. It gets me to listen to stuff that helps.

This is what bothers me deeply about all the ads online that say something like "[AI] helps me get my studying done while taking up the least amount of my valuable time." I always interpret it as "AI makes it look like I'm studying even though I'm not putting in the time to actually learn anything."
It’s widely known (and, I think, pretty uncontroversial) that learning requires effort — specifically, if you don’t have to work at getting the knowledge, it won’t stick.

Even if an LLM could be trusted to give you correct information 100% of the time, it would be an inferior method of learning it.
Relying on ChatGPT to teach you about a topic leaves you with shallower knowledge than Googling and reading about it, according to new research that compared what more than 10,000 people knew after using one method or the other.

These are all “speed cubes,” designed to be solved very quickly. They are all different “models” of cube, made by a bunch of different companies.

What do they all have in common? My average solve times are about the same on all five. Even the five year old cube in the 2nd photo.

Cover versions that I like better than the original, part 1/x:

The Never Ending Story by Sakamoto Miu (坂本美雨). Something light and fresh to end the day on.

There is an actual music video, but the only copy I could find on YouTube is of very low quality, both audio and video.

Ooo, a shiny 2025 cent, from the Denver Mint! Souvenir of the end of an era?

…naaah.

(Unscrupulous eBay sellers are already selling boxes of rolled 2025 pennies, face value $25, for over a thousand bucks…)

You olds don't need to hear this, but to you youngbloods out there, I come to you from the future: when the news begins talking about ways to save money for the holidays, rather than getting you hyped to drown in debt buying shit, that means shit is WAY FUCKING WORSE than they are letting on.

One of the oldest watches in my collection. This is an English verge fusee watch from around 1848. The mechanism is an older design, notable for the fusee chain that makes it run steadily. (see 4th pic)

Even when new, it wasn't very accurate by today's standards. Still cool, though.

Nothing eases the boycott pressure like a cynically promoted item from a boycotted company physically inside another boycotted company.
Beginning Monday, a Frozen Peppermint Hot Chocolate drink will be available exclusively at Starbucks cafés inside Target stores.

The chains are hoping the drink can drum up excitement from customers this holiday season.
