rohann - she/her/they

recently ditched a PhD to make games bc it's way more fun and life is too short

learning pixel art, godot 4 (2D + GDscript), music & sfx, and games writing (IF)

my first ever (kinda playable) game: ro-hann.itch.io/botberry-patch
The #bogjam with #cafedot was so fun! 1st game, 1st game jam, 1st time using Godot...a last-minute scramble bc my team fell apart 2 days before the deadline (life happens, & that's ok!)

I'm proud I submitted *something* bc I struggle w/ perfectionism

Every night @maddow.msnbc.com has a first segment that runs through protests and town halls held in last 24 hrs and if you are feeling like nobody is feeling like you feel or you don’t know what to do: start by watching these and then find your people in your area. They are everywhere.

The world needs more examples of women throwing out men who are comfortable voting for politicians and parties that want to make women second-class citizens. We had to wade through a lot of blandness to get here but it’s almost worth it. #LoveIsBlind

like other examples before. even making the big game thats made huge profits dosnt stop the devs being fired. Keep an eye out for executives suddenly having a big bonus. Sad to see as the devs did really good work.

Game devs really need to unionize. This Alex Pareene piece comparing film studios, who make a movie and then disband the team every time by design, with game studios who *pretend* to have a permanent work force, really stuck with me. newrepublic.com/article/1626...

The tech industry needs unions like the film industry does.

This is awful.

Yes, this administration is dangerous and cruel, but they are also shockingly dim and incompetent.

Opportunities are everywhere.

Make everything as hard as possible. Resist every demand. Refuse entry without a warrant. Don’t take the buyout. Their problem solving skills are 📉

The idea that I should be constantly doing (or absorbing) something all the time is my brain's worst problem that's taken over during the last 5+ years. So I say spend that 5 minutes (and more) deliberately doing nothing. Try to enjoy where your mind goes when you're just being, instead of doing
I want to doomscroll less, but there are just awkward moments where I only have like 5 minutes and I don't have time to get into the mind space of a book or article or grab a device to boot up a game. Has anyone found non-destructive activities for these moments? Just sit and think?

I've been thinking about this poem by Langston Hughes recently and although it was published in 1931, it remains relevant as ever.
