Sandhill cranes are easily one of my favorite birds. Beautiful in color and form, their aesthetic appearance is contrasted by their cacophonous bugle call. A chorus of these birds singing in the distance invokes a sense of prehistory.

When I read this book last year and realized it was published in 1993 it felt like a complete gut punch. Entirely on point for our current moment. An anxious read, but a necessary and timely one. I highly recommend it.
