K, so my favourite thing about writing sci-fi horror is having funky lil weirdo characters for whom facing space horrors is slightly less intimidating than small talk with people they don’t know and “is it going to eat us?” is a less terrifying question than “are you guys mad at me?”

I love avocados. I’m less enamoured by the fact you have an approximately 30 minute window in which they are the correct amount of ripe.

Loving the fact that my manly smelling shampoo comes in a bottle shaped like a hip flask.
Does this make any sense? It does not. Is there any logical reason for this design choice? Not really. But does it make me chuckle every time I wash my hair? It absolutely does.

This is what I thought journalism could be when I studied it a bajillion years ago in college. I’m no longer in journalism, but I’m so proud of the (mostly independent) papers and journalists still dedicated to speaking truth to power, rather than licking boots.
In the Spring of 1864 Twain, while working as a beat reporter for the SF Morning Call, Twain witnessed the murder of a Chinese laborer by a mob that included cops.
It radicalized him. He wrote it up, one of the first things he ever authored which he thought deserved to be called “literature”…
