The days of affordable housing and infrastructure in California being blocked by endless delays are finally over.

I just signed a historic package of laws that simplifies building, cuts timelines, and will help make it more affordable to live in the greatest state in America.

Right-NIMBYism is just republicans being like “we’re evil and want what’s worst for everyone” whereas left-NIMBYs claim to want the same goal as me but then advocate for policies that make the problem worse.

and to top it all off, the left-NIMBYs sanctimoniously scold pro-housing people

I know LA Metro has a ton of expansion plans (certainly the largest rail transit expansion of any place in the US, arguably in North America). I really think the largest thing holding back the system is land-use, so many of the homes & destinations around transit are still incredibly car dependent.

My best guess is that the Senate pro tem misjudged both the urgency of the housing crisis and the temperature of his caucus re: housing when he was handing out committee assignments. The latter mistake is understandable but the first one is genuinely weird! calmatters.org/housing/2025...
Unprecedented vote shows Dems fractured over housing policy
Two consecutive committee chairs got overruled by their members, signifying a growing rift among California Democrats about housing.

Americans really do grossly underestimate what a difference “walking everywhere” makes when they travel

like yeah the walking is the reason you lost weight while eating bread in Italy, it’s not because Italian bread is imbued with magical nonna sprinkles that give it fewer calories

There is no credible progressive argument against building a ton of new homes at all income levels. Opposing making it easier to build new homes isn’t progressive. It’s super conservative & an argument for a permanent shortage & permanent high rents.
If your whole thing is being a "renter's advocate" and you aren't running full speed towards this you are probably doing something else

Our legislation to allow more housing near high-quality public transit just passed the Senate Housing Committee. It was hard fought & I’m so grateful to my colleagues.

Addressing our housing shortage & the climate crisis means more housing density near transit. SB 79 will allow that to happen.

@mnolangray.bsky.social long time listener, first time caller. I'm looking into permitting reform for residential construction in LA City. I'm wondering if you know of any good resources or contacts for learning more about all the required steps to build a housing unit in LA proper.

I'm endlessly kind of baffled by the lack of urgency on housing California. This is the state's number one problem—a crisis so bad that's imperiling national Democratic ambitions. And all we can pass are heavily compromised bills that take effect in like five years, if ever.
