Here's to you, as good as you are,
And here's to me, as bad as I am;
But as good as you are, and as bad as I am,
I am as good as you are, as bad as I am.

As we countdown to the tariffs, I'm thinking of the 11 year old version of me who in 1989, was filled with so much hope for Canada's future under free trade.

Willing to bet I was the only one writing about politics in our Grade 5 class journals!

Update: still juggling the internal battle between my ND brain's stubborn desire to give up on learning new systems even if they don't make sense while also missing my twitter pals & my desire to stick it to capitalism & Elon.

Choose 20 books that have stayed with you or influenced you. One book per day for 20 days, in no particular order. No explanations, no reviews, just covers. #BookSky
Day 1

With the amount of books I've read & loved recently, it's gonna be hard to narrow it down to 20📚

This is a good start tho..

WHAT IF we could take back the MILLIONS of dollars, wasted employee travel time, & air pollution we've exhausted since 2021 in the numerous recruitment missions & staged photo ops but INSTEAD invest it all RIGHT HERE AT HOME by creating a lifestyle all professionals would flock to?

"Reality is what we take to be true.

What we take to be true is what we believe.

What we believe is based upon our perceptions.

What we perceive depends on what we look for.

for the Indy, i wrote about the uses and abuses of "common sense" in Canadian politics—traditionally (but not exclusively) a conservative phenomenon and getting a new lease on life as our national political culture continues swerving to the right theindependent.ca/commentary/t...
The pendulum swings back toward Canada's ‘common sense’ Conservatives – The Independent
Politicians of all persuasions shut down critical thinking by invoking “common sense”—which is never as obvious as it’s made out to be

The public discourse around homelessness rarely reflects the reality of those experiencing it & if you’re passionate about the cause, that’s where our focus needs to be.

In NL, adding your name to the homeless roster means risking your agency, choice & dignity.
Did you know they don’t track how many unhoused folks die each year. Or, if they do track it - they don’t share it.

Rarely are they named. But every single one of them matters. Every one of them was cared for by people who knew them. And every one of them deserved so much better.
second homeless person to die in a week in the Annapolis Valley, overnight when temperatures had dropped to -5.
The Province is killing our most vulnerable citizens, because they are leaning into a lie about more market supply being a solution for the homeless

Do you know anyone who might have written to Joey Smallwood between 1948 and 1951? If so, we might have chosen one of their letters for a book we're working on and we'd love to hear from them.

My moods can change faster than the weather in St. John’s but the sea lion on the beach is definitely my current mood…

Does Bluesky have a support group for people who still watch the HoA despite how enraging it is?
November 13, 2024 at 6:22 PM
Reminder that charity groups like NIN wouldn't be necessary if gov't ensured all citizens had access to adequate food, shelter & healthcare.

Witch-hunts won't change a thing for the true victims of this mess; our energies are better spent ensuring gov't delivers on all pieces of the Health Accord.

My neurospicy brain isn’t a big fan of the Bluesky format :(

Not sure if it’s adjusting to a new system or the confusing interface that makes my head hurt.

My brain wants Twitter but the interaction decreases daily.

Why can’t you all meet me at the dog park in the morning for a catch up?
