Fantastic post. I’m also delighted to flag up that on #WorldIBDDay NHS Lothian’s RefHelp team, working with the WGH GI consultants launched an updated RefHelp page about IBD, as well as a new dedicated referral pathway for patients with a possible new diagnosis of IBD.
🟣Today is World IBD day. Our IBD nurse team was in the Royal Victoria Building today at the Western General Hospital. Raising awareness and talking to the public about Inflammatory Bowel disease, a debilitating and chronic illness.

As I’ve landed back in hospital with unexpected cancer treatment complications, I’m going to try and channel @hayleygullen.com energy in this post!
I think I have a slightly different perspective on the world now, thanks to my life experience.

Last night I saw the Scottish premiere of On Falling by @lauracarreira.bsky.social and it is a special film. I admired the careful restraint of its storytelling, and its insistence on our capacity for kindness and beauty. It announces Carreira as a film maker of real courage and humanity. See it!

When life’s all a bit too cancery, checking out Hayley’s brilliant work always helps me understand what I’m feeling.
She’s awesome. If you don’t know her work - you really should!

In a mediocre school, I had a brilliant English teacher. I don't remember loathing but do remember loving: Steinbeck's The Pearl, Julius Caesar, Romeo & Juliet, Antigone, Norman MacCaig, some Margaret Atwood, some Alice Walker, plays by Ann Marie Di Mambro and Liz Lochhead, and a wee bit of Orwell.
US and UK friends, I'm curious: What books were part of your required reading for highschool literature class? Which of them do you remember loving, and which did you loathe?

Laid up with winter lurgy, and the extra stress that being on targeted therapy #Abema brings to any infection. But the (bittersweet) sliver lining is the chance to watch the last episodes of #Vera and the special doc. Such good good TV.

Daily reminder that the underlying purpose of AI is to allow wealth to access skill while removing from the skilled the ability to access wealth.
Anyway, AI has already stolen friends’ work, and is going to put other people out of work.

I do not think a political party that claims to be the party of workers in this country should be using it. Even for just a silly joke.

All the feels .. all the solidarity … all the tears ❤️
This was the Christmas card I created in 2022. As the panel states, it was part festive, part screaming into the void.

I think that sums up Christmas for a lot of us. Cancer or no cancer.

Once again, l'm doing a winter reread of Susan Cooper's #TheDarkisRising. Like the story, we start on #Midwinter'sEve, following the story until reaching the final chapter on Twelfth night.
If you've not read it before, or if it's been a while, now is the perfect time to (re)discover the book.

Lovely winter walk on the beach this morning. Not for the first time was glad I had my #radarkey. It reminds me of Biff, Chip & Kipper’s #MagicKey - but instead of transporting me via a magical vortex, it helps avoid accidents and let’s me get out and about with less toilet anxiety. Magical indeed!

FFS, journalists please stop saying ‘battle with cancer’. It’s such bullshit. Just say ‘died from cancer’ or ‘a year after being diagnosed w cancer’. This war/fight imagery is so stupid, widely condemned, infuriating & insulting to anyone having cancer treatment. It’s a disease, not a ‘fight’.

One of the most enraging things re this cancer ‘battle’ bullshit is that journalists are supposed to care about, be proficient with, *language*. Words are supposed to matter to you. The ‘battle’ thing is an unbelievably lazy cliche, apart from its damaging effects on ppl having cancer treatment.

Just thinking of this again, and thinking of the emotional and mental workload, alongside the physical and logistical demands. I had an Oncology appt today. My oncologist is brilliant. We spent time discussing my treatment-related symptoms, came up with a plan, but ….
Cancer is a full time job.
