On VE Day, we remember the sacrifices that brought peace to Europe. But for millions in Ukraine, war is not history, it’s their reality. Flags in the Wind honours both past and present struggles. Watch the film and stand with Ukraine.

As we mark 80 years since the end of the WW2 in Europe we should also remember the return to war in Europe.

I travelled to Ukraine on behalf of European Movement UK to make a film that tells the human story of Putin’s aggression and Russia’s illegal invasion of Ukraine.

Last week I was lucky enough to visit Ukraine to create a documentary highlighting the impact of the conflict on the Ukrainian people, internally displaced people and veterans.

It was incredibly humbling to speak to so many people and hear their stories.

It’s not a choice between good palliative care and assisted dying. It’s not a dismissal of concerns over coercion. You can vote for it now and work to make it better.

It’s about understanding that we can’t give everyone a good death and we should. It’s about empowerment.

If done correctly, reimagining the UK-EU relationship offers huge potential for mutual gain. A veterinary agreement, a youth mobility scheme and closer security cooperation are all areas ripe for kicking off a much closer UK-EU relationship in future.

The latest poll results of the German Politbarometer by ZDF offer a mostly encouraging picture!

Compared to the October survey, 70% of Germans surveyed are in favour of continuing to supply #Ukraine with weapons (+5%), with 43% of them even agreeing that military aid should be increased!

We should welcome this.

BUT

We can’t change our approach to standard divergence like an election yo-yo issue every 4 years. We need a long term inquiry into what our future relationship with Europe looks like free from ideology and party politics w customs union and market access on the table.
📣 The latest UK-EU Divergence Tracker has landed!

🚨 It finds that Labour is leading the UK towards closer regulatory alignment with the EU in what "amounts to a step-change in UK policy".

For 90% of working Icelanders, a 36-hour week means less stress, more job satisfaction and time to enjoy life beyond work I like to walk around old cemeteries and read the headstones. Here in Iceland, it has been customary to engrave people’s job titles…

A very big figure when my generation became politically aware. After a battle with Alzheimer’s disease. Regardless of party or political differences there is do doubt that Lord Prescott was an iconic character. Another victim of an awful disease. Thoughts are with friends and family.

While much of this will be reaching the end its life cycle it is hard to understand how the UK can justify the MOD cuts at a time of heightened security threats. It puts more doubt on Europe’s ability to fill the defence spending gap left in the wake of a Trump US.

£500m defence cuts as ships, drones and helicopters scrapped
Critics said the move would leave UK defence weaker, at a time of growing international tensions and after over a decade of funding pressures on the armed forces.

Just finished listening to the podcast that goes alongside this piece by @centreeuropeanref.bsky.social. Really interesting insight to how ~200,000 swing voters in swing states can have such an influence on European security policy. Podcast available from CEF website via Soundcloud.
Many described Trump’s first presidency as a wake-up call for Europe. But by and large, Europeans ignored that call. 🇺🇸 🇪🇺
