Good patch birding today: 30 Corn Buntings in a big mixed flock, inc Yellowhammers & Greenfinches.
A m. Hen Harrier & 2 Short-eared Owls showed well, a Merlin hunting, no fewer than 9 Great Egrets, 40 Whooper Swans & lots of waders.

Some very good birding on patch today. 2 ad m Hen Harriers - 1 almost close enough to video, 2 ringtail Hen H too. An amazing 8 Great Egrets! Merlin, Whooper Swans, Marsh Harriers, 20 Yellowhammers & a good backing cast.

One of two Northern Long-tailed Tits on the island of Yell, Shetland early this morning. It was like watching excited golf balls with wings and I'm not sure there is a word that can justify their beauty.

Hobby Update: 2nd day visit without any sign. I think they have gone.
Perhaps the glimpse, two days ago, of one disappearing south-east, was actually its departure for sub-Saharan Africa.
Despite the skeins of geese these woods & fields will seem so much emptier now.

Yellow-browed Bunting trapped, ringed and released at the Swannery. It's flown to the hedge which runs alongside the Swannery grounds and the bird may be viewable from the permissive path heading west from Grove Lane.
