Great spotted Woodpecker on top of the Magic Tree, as two Sparrowhawks slid by.

Busy thrushy skies, and 20 Redwings & a Song Thrush on the lawn. (Later, a Great spotted Woodpecker on the feeder & a Blackcap (!) in the hedge).

Most birds in hiding in the wind & rain, but perhaps these conditions brought the flyover Teal. Only the second record for the garden.

A Crow astride the lawn, as a Common Gull angled the breeze above.

US: the only place in the world still stuck in the temperature 20th century!! No one understands what you mean by 45⁰ unless you mean extreme heat.

A Little Egret, in the gloom, almost invisible, but grunting as it went.

An adult male HEN HARRIER has just flown over!!!!
(3 Great Tits were actually just before it, however!)

The chack chack chack of a Fieldfare.

Overslept & missed the best part of the day! 🙄
But still birds coming past, inc 6 Lapwings, Skylarks & a Siskin.
However, first were impossible to ignore Wood Pigeons.

A dozen Siskins lifting off into the migrant-busy skies. The Chiffchaff still sounds from the Magic Tree.

So sorry to hear this, Hannah.

Mixed Fieldfare & Redwing flock over.

Yes, I read that. I wonder how they would enforce that, in the unlikely event it happened? Certainly the police are not interested in reports of dogs in nature reserves, nor of people disturbing nesting sites of schedule 1 species. And people wonder where all the ground nesters have gone!

Ah! Takes me back.
November 4, 2025 at 12:33 PM
Cracking birds those massive Channel-billed Cuckoo!
November 4, 2025 at 7:26 AM
Wren churring away.
Yellowhammer & Chiffchaff in the Magic Tree again.
November 4, 2025 at 7:25 AM
Great. But better if sober, I think.

You should move to Yorkshire, Guy. Here every man & his off-the-lead dog tramps along private tracks & through crop fields. And it devastates the wildlife.
