I watched this conversation last night, and it was just *brilliant*.

Neoliberal capitalism is killing off life on Earth, yet its name is almost never spoken, most people have never even heard of it.

If we are to have a future, that MUST change. Watch this talk, then read 'The Invisible Doctrine'.

It is quite insane to fish - rich in animal protein - in order to feed to chickens or salmon to produce ... animal protein. Every way you turn capitalism makes money out of wrecking the planet. Capitalism is not the only way
"Seas off Cork a 'marine desert' due to overfishing of sprat, says owner of whale-watching business."

Sprat, the basis of entire ecosystems, is being hoovered out to turn into fishmeal, an *insanely* wasteful process.

Who or what gives them the right???

Skipper Colin Barnes said the whales have left his search area of ocean off Cork because the sprat they feed on has been fished to near extinction

In 1970 the UK and Norway were roughly equal, almost no debt, and owned all their Public Services.

Now the UK owns nothing and has £3tn of debt.

While Norway still owns everything and has the equivilant of £10tn.

That's how privatisation 'works'.

So we hear Angela Rayner has been giving Rachel Reeves ideas on how to change the tax system...

Here's one: how about a wealth tax on the super rich?

The UK's 50 richest families hold more wealth than 50% of the population. No more cruel cuts. It's time to tax wealth fairly.

The Sunday Times' Rich List is another wake-up call: 50 of the UK's richest families hold more wealth than half the UK population. While millions can’t afford food or heating, a tiny minority of the super-rich thrive. We need a fairer tax system to tackle extreme wealth and build a fairer society.

Fascinating. I always thought mature woodland was resistant to fire, but wasn't 100% sure.

Confirmed.

It could spur interesting debate re natural, hands-off rewilding vs accelerated ecological succession by planting oak, etc.

Any rewilding is better than nothing!

14. It also claims this burning makes the land less prone to wildfires. Yes, as an ecosystem tries to return to woodland, its intermediate successional stages can be fire-prone. But well-established woodland is very hard to burn. Swaling, by interrupting the succession, keeps the land flammable.

Why ridiculous? Tell me why UKGE invited fishermen to supply elvers and wait for payment until they were sold? They didn't get a permit and the EA made them put them back, as you know, and posing as the saviours of the Severn is so much hogwash.

You didn't mention that those eels were caught in the hope of getting a permit to export them to Belarus, but the EA forced Peter Wood to put them back. So much for the Severn Saviours baloney

A fair few replies to this along the lines of "Sycamore may be an invasive species, but that tree was still iconic."

Would they say the same about an old rhodo, for eg? We should hope not.

But my main point was how people are more incensed by obvious damage to one tree than mass, outright ecocide.
Damn right.

Sycamore are invasive in Ireland + Britain, and the furore over one tree cut down in the UK, with only a tiny fraction of that level of outrage over the constant killing of millions of *native* trees by sheep, for eg, just goes to show how ecologically clueless many of us still are.
I have cut down A LOT of sycamore trees.

For your campaign to have any chance of success, people need to know who you are, if you campaign for your own small interests or for the genuine public good, and what you are actually campaigning for. None of this is clear, so we must assume this venom is the last twitching dying of UK Glass Eels
