Curse of private equity and the chase for corporate profits

More pets being put down due to rising vet bill.

Vets, managers incentivised to increase profits. Fees, insurance costs have rocketed. People deprived of company and love. Pets deprived of life.

Capitalism devours, state silent.
Vet bills: More pets being put down due to rising costs, BBC told
Owners are increasingly delaying treatment for sick pets to avoid spiralling vet bills, charities warn.

Curiously, in its form, this is pretty much an Executive Order.

It has:
an addressee ("Israel"),
a command ("Do not drop those bombs...bring your pilots home"),
a consequence of breach (it would be a "major violation"),
a deadline ("now").

And is signed by him with his office.

Zia Yusuf has published a response to our report on the Reform UK "Britannia card" proposal. It's disappointing: heavy on insults, light on substance, and revealing that Mr Yusuf cites an OBR paper he hasn't read. buff.ly/GUbqAei
The £34bn cost of Reform UK’s “Britannia card” proposal
Reform UK’s Britannia Card would let wealthy foreigners pay £250,000 to avoid UK tax — but would likely cost £34bn and reduce skilled migration.

Absolutely on the money here!!
Time to rein in the UNPAID TAXES of the RICH for the common good & equitable sharing of wealth & health!
The 80-year recipe stoking America’s Prosperity:

1) Free-market capital investments in brilliant ideas…
2) enabled by Engineering Innovations…
3) based on Science Research in Universities…
4) funded by Grants from the US Government.

It’s time more people understood this.

No, that’s the hurricane you didn’t plan for… this guy is going to make Michael Brown look like he knew what he was doing.

Because they're terrified of accusations they're betraying Brexit. It's the same in so many areas. They're hiding their successes and yelling about their weaknesses.
It is remarkable how little effort Starmer has put into making the case for his renegotiation. No “Bloomberg” speech, no policy papers. An interview three days before deal day is the first outing of substance. If his pro-EU coalition gives him no credit for it, it’s because hes asked for none.
Keir Starmer: Why I love Eurovision — and my EU trade deal

The Prime Minister has proposed a deal which will bring the UK closer to the EU than it has been since Brexit — and thinks the British public will back him up. Read the interview ⬇️

Today, the ERC formally adopted a decision to increase its support for researchers moving to Europe.

On top of its normal grants, the ERC offers 'start-up' funding to help PIs establish laboratories / research teams in Europe.

This extra funding is now x2 (up to €2 million!)

The appalling state of spelling these days is a national disgrace - Farage is not a 'CULT' he's a - oh yes, I seeee.
Rupert Lowe, "I think Nigel Farage is running a cult"

"It's the cult of Nigel"

"Anyone who basically has different opinion is effectively expunged from being a threat to the cult"

"I've concluded that Nigel is a narcissist, a cultist, he puts Nigel ahead of everything"

It took a YEAR to get here - talk about playing it long

We've also had the documents and records DEFRA and NE have tried hard to keep quiet for the same length of time too

As a result of getting this far, YOU now have access to those records as well

We have a very long way to go still.

Genuine question: is it reasonable for an academic journal to publish as 'independent' a study by scientists employed by Govt which backs Govt policy but in which the authors don't declare an interest or that the Civil Service Code forbids them from publicly criticising Govt policy? #ethics
