as a heads up for my new followers:

i post about heavily political stuff alongside the science and gaming. if you are uncomfortable with that, please mute/block me

i won't be offended. i'm not owed your attention, and your comfort online matters too

i don't feel accomplished after surpassing challenges, just glad it's over. and, so far, nothing i've learned to...

i don't know exactly why, but i'm reminded of when musk said he doesn't think chess is a good game because it doesn't have a fog of war or a tech tree

he's just a comically uncultured swine

you know we used to have to do at least a little work to prove the connection between racism and transphobia
Nothing illustrates the arseholery of the IOC and the British Press more than the use of the image of a not-Trans woman to illustrate a story about trans women being banned (because there are no current trans women competing at this level)

even the things that are cheaper relative to 2000 prices are also (a) lower quality, requiring more frequent replacement or repair, (b) proportionally a higher percentage of whatever money you have leftover after healthcare, food, housing, etc., or (c) subscriptions rather than ownership
Pretty much all affordability discourse could benefit from just posting this chart.

If you're in the better off America, all the luxury goods you want in excess are for the most part much cheaper. If you're in the poorer America, most of the shit you need to live/grow is more expensive.

legit question: did schumer destroy the lives of tens of millions of americans because mamdani won the election for mayor of new york city?

racists would, and have tried to, burn the entire country to the ground as revenge, so i don't think we could put it past him

Anyway a great way to radicalize people is for them to realize that you just abandoned their chance at being able to access and afford health care because you didn’t like waiting in line at the airport.

the democrats couldn't even go one week after their only meaningful win in 17 years before they decided to go out of their way shooting themselves in the foot just to demonstrate that they will always be subservient to the same corporate donors that prop up the republicans

just fucking stunning

definitely love all the freaks out there and on here pointing to numbers on a spreadsheet to deny the lived material experiences of people

just terrific work all around, lads (and gosh, it really is mostly lads doing it, isn't it? funny, that)
Graph pervert: "You are wealthier than anyone ever has been"

Everyone I know: has multiple on-the-books jobs & stuff on the side to afford an apartment 1/20th the size of the house their grandparents owned at age 30 on 1 job. Their clothes, appliances, and cars last half as long for 1000x the cost.

insofar as anyone is working within the system, any move they make to unfuck any part our country will be a mixed-bag that can be legitimately critiqued and legitimately praised. we should not like that, but we must accept that as the reality of right now
This is actually a pretty standard and unremarkable move, as evidenced by Justice Jackson issuing it.

But most people won't believe that for several good reasons.
/1
#BREAKING: Justice Jackson has issued an "administrative" stay, temporarily pausing a district court order that would've required the USDA to continue using contingency funds to pay SNAP benefits.

The stay expires 48 hours after the First Circuit rules on USDA's request for a stay pending appeal.

if you're into randomizers, especially if you're into RPGs, check out LadyErianna's Phantasy Star 4 rando
I just wrapped up production on Phantasy Star IV Profound Distortion version 6.2.0. This update was huge and accomplished/fixed/added so much that I've wanted to do for years but couldn't figure out how to. I think I'm honestly finally proud of the work I've done on this randomizer.

Riley's Law, from Trash Future Podcast: "once you start posting transphobia, you never go back to posting normally again"

just scale it up to include the entire mainstream press alongside social media
I think a number of press outlets badly want there to be a groundswell of anti-trans feeling, because the ownership/senior editorial of those papers have absolutely cooked their own brains on transphobia. It seems to be largely an elite psychosis!
the harris campaign said the “they/them” ad didn’t sway the election.

one of the trump campaign’s top strategists this week said trans rights isn’t in the top five issues for swing voters.

when will the press stop talking about us like we’re a liability and start looking itself in the mirror

Lots of hard, shitty lessons being learned from this presidency. And one of the many I hope you're learning is, white supremacy is incompatible with reality, and cannot exist without historical revisionism.
1/ The US Government has quietly removed a memorial to Black soldiers who died in World War II from the Netherlands American Cemetery in Margraten, South Limburg. The move follows a complaint from the right-wing Heritage Foundation to the American Battle Monuments Commission. ⬇️

A Sharon Begley byline, almost 5 years after her death.

Upon hearing the news James Watson had died, a STAT reporter said in our Slack, "I wish I could read what Sharon would have written."

Incredible news: Sharon in fact did pre-write a Watson obit. And it is masterful and excoriating.

james watson was a terrible scientist, not just a terrible person

the racist and sexist claims he made over the course of his life are empirically false, as demonstrated by countless scientific studies carried out by people who didn't plagiarize their way to fame

Honestly this was one of the most challenging essays to make. Benatar's anti-natalism contains multiple very clever sleights of hand and mistruths built on top of each other. Sarah was really suffering and sick through the pregnancy. Plus my autistic hyper fixation went into overdrive.
just wanted to share this by my good friends The Leftist Cooks: all about anti-natalism & the ideology behind it.

this is a rare work of actual, novel philosophy on the topic: we are lucky that this is available for free on YouTube. Neilly even wrote a book to accompany it.
