jesus christ. the lab that Square-Enix is partnering with is, among other things, trying to use LLMs to predict or manipulate the japanese stock market

frequently in the past few months, we have seen powerful symbolic images that can be used to convince more people to oppose fascism
from trump's weak military parade to his demolition of the white house, these images are tools we can use, if we connect these symbols to peoples' material conditions

great review of the right-wing academics' tantrum book, with very important examples of actual attacks on science throughout. this paragraph in particular stands out to me. while hucksters are still selling bogus products (e.g., satel and purdue), the primary product is vibes

outset island is perhaps the best starting area of any zelda game
and that is saying something, considering how strong so many zelda games are with how they start

GOT IT!!! 3rd run attempt of the day
a sub 1:30 time with a failed belselk skip, which is super embarassing, but goes to show how volatile speedrunning can be
plenty of potential time left, but i've met my goal for Wild ARMs
lovely game, super fun speedrun, can recommend

by far the silliest omega kill i've ever done
was kinda fun to sit around and just chat for a bit over 2 hours while it's 55,530 hit points leak away at a rate of about 7 - 7.25 per second
i'm never doing this again, but i can say i have done it
still faster than a 4 white mage byblos fight

this is a great piece about an important topic, and this is, i think, one of the more important takeaways
small coordinated networks of people in scientific gatekeeping positions can have a disproportionately high degree of responsibility for some problematic aspect of science

one of my favorite psych studies in HRI/HCI is kahn et al's 2012 "robovie, you'll have to go in the closet"
in their discussion, the authors ask the reader to imagine the developmental and moral consequences of interacting with entities that are designed to be obsequious
very relevant re: ChatGPT

there may be a larger good point in this article, somewhere. somewhere
but saddled with this very explicit example of "there's actually zero difference between good & bad things" undermines everything this author is saying

reading this nightmarish article reminded me--as a lot of AI bullshit these days does--of Sherry Turkle's 2011 book Alone Together, in particular this part of the epilogue
"In digital culture, does life become a strategy for establishing an archive?"

this has always been class warfare rhetoric by the wealthy against the poor
as shown in this image from 2011, fox news argued that a lot of poor people in the US weren't really poor and therefore, not deserving of welfare or assistance because they have a goddamned fridge

no joke, that's what they responded with as an example of "advanced troubleshooting"
also, that "If the game you are playing utilizes multiple APIs..."
wait, so you don't know if YOUR game that i'm submitting a ticket about utilizes multiple APIs? do i have that right?

i think the most interesting finding comes from their Fig 5, but it isn't 5b, it's 5a. why are people misreading a human debate opponent as an AI twice as often as they're misreading an AI debate opponent as a human? sadly, the authors don't discuss the implications of this findings at all
