#DCU should give him a call. They desperately need chance creation, they have the open DP slot but not necessarily the international slot. Not to mention they desperately need something to make them more relevant. Can we honestly say this would make things worse at the team right now?
Bet my life savings on Reyna coming to MLS
Gio Reyna in Gladbach's 2-0 loss @ former club BVB: 65 minutes, 46 touches, 1 shot (deflected wide), 26/33 passing (79%), 0.54 xG+xA, 1/2 on dribbles, 2 recoveries, 2 def actions, 3/5 ground duels won, 0/4 aerials, 2 fouls drawn, 0 committed, 1 nutmeg of Felix Nmecha

Fourth straight start, at least

Ok maybe not... #DCU
Passing G+ this season was 130th out of 148 CBs league-wide.

Over the last 4 seasons, he's averaged a -0.63 G+ in that category, which is in line with (to keep it DCU) 2024 Matti Peltola.

More moves. Ball playing CB. Could be a good pair with Bartlett if he stays #DCU
Expecting D.C. United to complete a trade with NY Red Bulls for center back Sean Nealis (144 starts) for financial considerations, per sources. #mls

With DCU taking the draft this seriously, an arrangement for the MLS2 HAS to be shortly announced. I understand we are months past the “in 48 hours” statement by Levien, but…you’d have to think it’s coming.

Lol wut? #DCU
Erkut Sogut: Baribo "probably one of the biggest signings for the club in history"

Says coach René Weiler wants "high-pressing and transitional attacking football... we will press high. So I think that will suit Tai very well"

"We have a clear pathway. We have a clear vision"

Edison Flores, Boris Enow, Gabriel Pirani, Nigel Robertha, and Zoltan Stieber were all 7-figure acquisitions. Mohanad Jeahze, José Fajardo, Erik Sorga, Victor Pálsson all cost $500k or more.

You can't be a mid-level MLS spender and miss this often.

This is fighting a battle from the past for D.C. United, who have long been accused of not spending on players despite evidence to the contrary.

Anecdotally, over the last 6 months this complaint finally dried up. People have caught up: their problem hasn't been spending, it's been talent eval.
Interesting detail from the D.C. United press release about Tai Baribo:

“The total transaction value of the trade, including player compensation, exceeds $15 million for D.C. United, a clear investment in the club’s future success.”

Simmonds also has pro-level experience with Richmond. Registered a goal in 12 appearances. #DCU
DC has the number one pick and UVA freshman (and Richmond native) Nicholas Simmonds has signed a GA deal.

He'll be sold to Europe for a nice profit within 3 years.

It makes too much sense for DC to grab him.

So they'll probably trade the pick. 🫤

Incredible how the Superdraft transformed from an event held in a ballroom to a Zoom Press conference. It is like the reverse of every league draft in American sports. #MLS

4.5 year contract is probably one of the longest I have seen #DCU give for a DP. This is a massive investment in Baribo to say the least...
D.C. United confirms trade for Israeli intl Tai Baribo from Philly. Terms presumably to be announced later today. He signs a DP contract through 2029-30 after making $810k overall this season.
D.C. United close to acquiring Tai Baribo (16 goals for Philadelphia Union) and signing him to a designated player contract, per sources.

⚫️🔴 BREAKING: D.C. United has completed the signing of Israel int'l Tai Baribo from the Philadelphia Union, per sources.

Cash transfer worth around $4m. Baribo becomes a DP for D.C. United.

Baribo, 27, has 35 goals in ~4,300 mins over last two seasons for Philly.

Cornel to Orlando, Zimmerman to Toronto, and now Bartlett potentially leaving. Our list of possible defensive improvements grows thin...

@tombogert.bsky.social reporting that Bartlett is requesting a discussion about his future. #DCU is fielding offers for him. A LOT of questions if he leaves this window.

The hostility to the move can IMO be boiled down to 2 related points:

1. DCU fans have no trust in anyone at the club to make a good move. That's gonna take years to fix.

2. When DCU spends 7 figs, they've bought at several career value peaks. This deal feels like, for example, Edison Flores.
December 12, 2025 at 9:04 PM
Biggest thing still to solve for #DCU in 2026 will be chance creation. Baribo does nothing to solve. At least one of the new DPs should go toward solving this problem.
Should be a lil concerned about a CF that can't dribble or pass playing on a *probably* bad team, me thinks

Good. They should also offer Seattle a bag for Minoungou, pick up Kent off of waivers, sign Haak, Coronel & Zimmerman in free agency.
Thoughts on this from DC’s perspective?

⚫️🔴 BREAKING: D.C. United is in advanced talks to sign Israel int'l forward Tai Baribo from the Philadelphia Union, per sources.

Would be a cash transfer worth around $4m. Baribo would be a designated player in D.C.
