Marco Rubio is reportedly saying Maduro will stand trial in US courts.

Which means it’s now the US administration’s position that US courts can hold foreign presidents, but not the US president, accountable for crimes.

Q: You said the US is going to run Venezuela. So who's in power right now?

TRUMP: Well, we're gonna be running it with a group. We're gonna make sure it's run properly. We're gonna rebuild the oil infrastructure which will cost billions of dollars.

That's going to hurt the Hastings economy in March. Huge event in terms of dollars coming into the local economy, as the horse folks are loaded financially. Start of the local council "cutting its cloth and focusing on the basics"?

Just how do they expect these not to end up in the rubbish bin? The Kmart recall points to an Australian website, the local council said not our problem, get in contact with a Asbestos removal business. Said businesses are busy with schools, and don't want to know about a tub or two of sand.

Making the underpaid and under-resourced teachers and support staff the bad guys here is a hell of a play. #nzpol

Here is my best guidance, rendered beautifully by the great John Lithgow. I first published these lessons nearly nine years ago, in late 2016. They open the twenty chapters of "On Tyranny: Twenty Lessons from the Twentieth Century."

This is similar to passive operation of ablism in employment - which these ‘return-to-office’ policies also exacerbate.
When we think of sexism, it's easy to think of *active* efforts to discriminate against women. But sexism also operates *passively* - like through our inaction on issues like childcare and paid family leave. In that context, return-to-office policies are sexist in consequence, even if not in design.

Brian Tamaki on his international tour: UK stop at "free speech" protest in London

I thought that the bitter irony was that somebody who had abused his free speech to call for political violence met his end through that same political violence while giving a free speech.

The Regulatory Standards Bill creates an expectation that if governments act in the public interest, they would have to pay out corporations whose 'property rights' are affected. In short, corporations could demand compensation any time the government tries to protect people or the planet.

Of course, and ironically, neoliberalism also incentivizes all of us to see evil as the product of individual pathology. Because it means that the solution to evil is to punish evil individuals. Which requires less work and investment than changing the structure and culture of society.

Love Dame Marilyn Waring addresses the social worker vs air traffic controller comparator, labeled ludicrous by the Government: "Understanding what a social work qualification means, I would happily employ a social worker as an air traffic controller, but never contemplate the reverse."
In this morning's 'Spinoff' Marilyn Waring explains why she set up the People's Select Cttee on Pay Equity after the govt wiped out all claims retrospectively under urgency (& more). The article has a link to the submission site: closing date 31 July, we'd love to hear from you! #nzpol #kikorangi

This government has cut the minimum wage in real terms - twice. We are cutting living wage protections. Cutting sick leave. Child poverty is rising. Is this seriously the only plan for the economy? How many people need to be impoverished for this government to feel wealthy?

Making it less attractive to work in the industries which will be affected by this decision, will make it harder to recruit. Care, Nursing, Teaching. That makes it more expensive to provide those services. We are simply passing on the costs to the future, rather than solving them
