Investing in people and planet is a winning strategy.
Counter destructive reinforcing loops with effective balancing loops.
Efficiency does not equate to effectiveness.

This sums it up perfectly.
The metaphor of life as machine has merits and limitations. Understanding life as interplay of complex systems reveals its breadth and depth as well as human hubris in a drive for predictability. Life is perpetual emergence - a learning adventure. Two insights:

And I think we can make better decisions.”

The fight isn’t for Congress.
It’s for your nervous system.
Your attention.
Your hope.
Your endurance.
If they break that…they win.
If they fail…they lose.

Yes, it's true. If we had actually representative electoral/legislative institutions where everyone's vote counted equally & all were represented, a real constitutional court instead of 6 Wizards In Robes, & restricting suffrage was illegal, that you couldn't win by being a far right party anymore 🤷‍♂️
Johnson: "If they had no filibuster, they would pack the SCOTUS. You'd go from 9 to 17 or however many liberals they could pack. You would make DC & Puerto Rico into states, which would give 4 additional Democrat senators & make us a permanent minority. You'd see massive restrictions of 2A rights"

This is very good. It lines up with a lot of research I have seen on political science, public policy, communication, etc., but it is more accessible. Download the report and share it with your friends who are concerned about the erosion of democracy around the world.
I've been working with Demos to turn the Verification, Deliberation, and Accountability (VDA) Framework into a report that lays out how it can be used to diagnose the state of democracy and build solutions around building the capacity for those functions in institutional and public spaces.
🧵 Across the world, democracy isn’t just under pressure, it’s facing epistemic collapse: a breakdown in the shared ability to know what’s true, to reason together and to hold power to account.

A new guest paper by @eliothiggins.bsky.social and @drnataliemartin.bsky.social explores how to fix it.
