How about we shut down the government for this very popular and specific goal and then, hear me out, we hold out for like a month and a half and then, ok this part is important, after a watershed election where we ran the table, ONLY THEN, fold and don't get the one thing we said we wanted.

With this capitulation, democracy in the US may be lost for a long time, if not forever.
This is why this surrender isn't just about this narrow issue but is rather the whole constitutional ballgame:

Democrats are affirmatively signaling they do not want political power at the same time Trump is transitioning the political system into an autocratic one wherein they're denied it forever
Not that he didn’t already know, but now Trump knows for sure he can roll the Dems every time and there’s no need to negotiate for anything

1985: The Miracle Year is an credible release. Listening to it took me back in time, and what a time it was. Being a college radio DJ in the 80s meant we had direct access to some of the coolest things happening in music. Husker Du was one of them.
How Bob Mould rediscovered the great, lost live Husker Du record
Bob Mould discusses Numero Group’s “1985: The Miracle Year,” which captures the Minnesota punk trio Husker Du at its youthful peak.

I’m pretty sure winning a slam dunk lawsuit against this criminal extortion would have been cheaper than dropping $60m during a bad budget crunch. They didn’t cave to pressure. They collaborated with the regime and sold out their students and staff.
Breaking News: Cornell University reached an agreement with the Trump administration that would restore hundreds of millions in funding to the university. It's expected to pay a $30 million fine to the government and to invest $30 million in agriculture and farming programs.

The WaPo editorial board has moved so far to the right and protective of the monied classes under Bezos that it is almost unrecognizable from its former self.

Some Americans have not forgotten what it means to be American in the time of of an autocratic and nationalistic takeover. May there be many more sandwich guys in the days to come.

The sting is in the tail, so be sure to follow the short (3 post thread) to the end.
So, hey, wanna see something you'll really hate?

It's going to be thrust in front of your eyeballs in the next few weeks regardless, so you might as well be forewarned so as to be forearmed.

But if you aren't into hate-reading, you might want to skip this thread.

Cornell agreed to pay $30m, hand over admissions data with demographic breakdowns, produce annual "campus climate" surveys to check on antisemitism and changes "since October of 2023," and—here's the dumbest part they agreed to—that the govt can open new investigations whenever it wants.

Appeasers.

This happened in the same Oval Office meeting where he later violated HIPPA and essentially ignored someone with a health emergency. Yeah, totally normal.

I am so glad I cancelled my subscription to the WaPo. While there are still pockets of adequate journalism, it has largely been hollowed out, and the editorial side has become a joke. The latest piece on the ACA is perfect example. No mention of the trillion $+ tax cut for billionaires like Bezos.
