A poster with all the whale and dolphin species found around Andenes, Norway. It was a nice challenge depicting the animals in a dynamic way, keeping the scale of each whale correct.
Drawings are made in Copic Marker and colored pencil

This past summer, I had an opportunity to follow and photograph several colonies of oak treehoppers from newly laid eggs to the emergence of adults. Oak treehoppers are unique in that mamas stay with and protect their young throughout their entire development. Check out this emergence of an adult!

Just finished this great spotted woodpecker in watercolor! Loved using brighter colors, and rendering weathered birch bark was tricky. Painted in my Etchr A6 sketchbook with QoR colors and a Pentel Aquash brush. Fun fact: woodpeckers can peck 20 times a second without harm! #bird #sciart

I posted a WIP of this ludicrous animal a couple of days ago. I’m calling it finished for now. #SciArt

Here's a stunner for #FossilFriday, just look at that beetle's preserved wing case! It belongs to a group called frog-legged leaf beetles (so-named for their extra-juicy rear legs), paleontologists called its pattern "the most perfectly preserved pigment-based colouration known in fossil beetles" 🧪
49 million-year-old beetle looks like it was squashed yesterday
Paleontologists named the insect "Attenborough's Beauty," after Sir David Attenborough.

I'm always captivated by the delightfully named Peacock Fly, Callopistromyia annulipes (Macquart, 1855) [family Ulidiidae]—this one was strutting on a log while waving its wings #FlyFriday #Diptera

So BlueSky is currently trending as an app and that's what's bringing people in and focusing and using the app, but Bo Burnham makes a good point here. What happens down the line when we plateau? Will there be a need for more engagement and thus they'll change format? I pray not.

Cucurbita pepo is one of the oldest domesticated species. Over millennia, it has proved astoundingly versatile.

Just as Brassica oleracea gave us broccoli, kale, cabbage, Brussels sprouts etc, C. pepo morphed into the pumpkin, zucchini, delicata, pattypan, acorn, yellow squash and more!

Feeling nostalgic, thinking it's time to post some old favorites for the BlueSky community >>>

One of the most stunning #flies (maybe insects in general) I've seen: #Leucotabanus annulatus, a horse fly (Tabanidae). Males are naturally white, while females are a bit more drab gray/brown. Raleigh, NC
