“What one rule in football would you change?” #bbcr4today asks. For me, it has to be the whole not handling the ball thing. It completely takes the hands out of the game.

It's surely one of the great tragedies of contemporary Britain that it enjoys enormous soft power through the worldwide respect for the BBC's journalism and for British universities and that the media eco-system demands governments be constantly at war with both.

I’m starting to get the impression that a lot of people don’t know how obituaries work - having them written, or partly written, by someone who predeceased the person is not unusual. Papers have them on file and ready to go. Lewis wrote most of Tolkien’s obituary for the Times.

As someone who’s currently covering home affairs, I’m a bit disorientated to find there’s a big scandal on another beat. Surely they must have let out of prison someone they shouldn’t have or outsourced running the whole system to Denmark by mistake.

Glad that someone has finally taken responsibility for the appalling assault on democracy that was the Jan. 6 insurrection.

Slightly confused that it's the Director-General of the BBC, but what do I know?

I see that Alan Milburn has been charged with leading a government review into the growing number of Neets. So now I’m worrying if Louise Casey is somehow unwell.

We'd been trying to make sense of why today's PMQs' questioning of David Lammy seemed a bit strange. Thank you, @roberthutton.co.uk for elucidating why.
It's great to find out more about the calibre of people we have in the upper echelons of public service - very heartening.

Reckoned knife crime was out of control in the U.K.?
Reckoned there was nothing to worry about?

A strange thing: the theme song to Dad's Army just popped into my head and I was annoyed anew that it's not "Whom do you think that you're kidding, Mr Hitler?"

There's been a long retreat from standards.
