Retweet as this, in two crisp sentences, is the platonic ideal of a social media post:
Tragedy is when I am criticized on social media. Comedy is when you are dismembered with a bone saw and die.

Good way to put it
My theological status is best described as "lazy agnostic," which is to say I am fairly certain that there is no god, but I'm not going to go out of my way to find out one way or another. If you're religious, cool, please don't use your religion as an excuse to be an asshole to other folks, thanks.

I have a couple of comments about the "free speech hero" narrative about Charlie Kirk.

First, was Charlie Kirk really notable for supporting the free speech of people he disagreed with? I haven't noticed that, though I could have missed it.

Honoring democracy means eschewing terror as a political tool, but it also means taking people’s words and ideas seriously as a reflection of their goals and personal character.

I genuinely think one thing that trips up folks on the left is that they can't imagine not sharing certain core values. Lemme explain. Here's an intuition pump:

Say you're in negotiations with counterparty X. And there are two possible deals on the table ...

It's telling that as Trump threatens a military takeover of cities, actively censors universities, imposes his politics on private companies, and weaponizes the DOJ against his critics, reactionary centrists who've made free expression their core issue . . . are still focused on wokeness.

the thing everyone is going to have to accept is that the post-trump period, whenever it comes, will not and cannot be a project of national unity, it must be a project of partisan project of renewal, in the same way that reconstruction and the new deal were partisan projects of renewal.

There is the actual Democratic Party, which for better or worse is a mostly ordinary liberal political party and then there is the “Democratic Party,” a synecdoche for everything that annoys you online.

I've said it many times before and Andrew Cuomo is making me say it again: we don't have a cancellation problem. We have never had a cancellation problem. To the contrary, we have a problem that "disgrace" is a very temporary embarrassment— an brief entr'acte more than an intermission.

It's pretty notable that mainstream, establishment discourse never ever ever considers giving liberal politicians credit for crime reductions. It's almost axiomatic that if crime goes down under a center-left leader it's either unremarked upon, or must be driven by something else.
