Back online after a brief hiatus. Feeling like I can have a voice again now that my Green Card has been approved. I just need you US citizens who have actual free speech rights to hit the streets!

Green card holder from New Hampshire 'interrogated' at Logan Airport, detained
Fabian Schmidt’s family said they are unsure of why he is being held. They said he has a recently renewed green card, and no active issues in court.

I generally don't support violence as an answer to our problems. But I also know that sometimes it is the only language that a bully can understand.

So, if all else fails, be prepared to punch that Nazi.

The response was entirely positive, so let the Nazi Punch of the Day begin. It seems appropriate to start with a classic. This is from Captain America Comics #1. The cover date was March 1941, but from what I've read, it was on the shelves several months earlier.

So true
This reads like the opening paragraph of a novel so bleakly dystopian you'd put it down after five pages

These optics! Trump appears to serve at the pleasure of the billionaires.
Trump looks thrilled as President Musk gets most of the questions from the press today while he sits there

The DOGE method is clear: with maximum speed, get control of key systems and data, then use that control to strip down entire departments back to the studs. The legal resistance is slow. I’m waiting to see if the new admin will follow judicial orders. www.washingtonpost.com/business/202...
In chaotic Washington blitz, Elon Musk’s ultimate goal becomes clear
Shrink government, control data and — according to one official closely watching the billionaire’s DOGE — replace “the human workforce with machines.”

This “darkest timeline” take was really sobering. Foresight says that the future unfolds through a “cone of possibility”. But when the darkest scenario starts to sound not only plausible but probable, it’s time to wake up. Watch, but have your self-care tools handy.
What happens if the courts put the brakes on Trump and he just…ignores them? George and talk through the worst case scenario. @gtconway.bsky.social

I’m trying very hard to not be triggered by every outrage. But I think it is already clear: they are 100% following the Project 2025 blueprint. Add in the Elon effect for additional chaotic energy and it pretty much is the worst case scenario.
Project 2025 is here

Cannot stop thinking about how Octavia Butler wrote a book in 1993 about climate change. It opens with deadly fires in LA in 2025. In the story, a fascist President has just won office with the campaign slogan "Make America Great Again."

She was a modern day Nostradamus. If only we'd listened.

Since the election, I shifted my media habits, from echo chamber rage-baiting “fast media” to more thoughtful “slow media” that steps back from the brink. This episode of The Bulwark is a great example. Thanks @timmiller.bsky.social & @hcrichardson.bsky.social youtu.be/qMQSs45oXow?...

Two things can be true:

1) those seeking to shrink or destroy the administrative state are incompetent fools & grifters, and…

2) there is enormous waste of resources in how the public sector delivers value to the public

The resistance should not defend the latter while attacking the former.

Very heartened by the response of South Koreans to protect their democracy.
Lee Jae-myung, Leader of South Korea's Democratic Party, live-streamed himself scaling the walls of the National Assembly to bypass military barricades so that he could vote to overturn the President's martial law.
