Beyond that, there's 1 extremely important rule with cycling: don't let anyone try to convince you there's a right way and a wrong way.
Ride whatever bike you want, and dress however you want (but do wear cycling mitts, as Gazza already explained).
And have fun 😊

I would suggest going to your local bike shop, but it is entirely possible to learn how to do it via YouTube.
It's just that a pump and spare tubes won't matter a bit if you're stuck not knowing what to do with it.
But it's easier than you think, and you'll be a pro in no time at all 😊

Excellent suggestions. Can I add something though? Learn how to replace an inner tube. Many people new, or newly returned to cycling don't know how to do that.

Also wear gloves or mitts all the time. If you do fall off (we all do occasionally) you will invariably put your hands out and road rash on palms is awful.

To carry:
A spare tube or two, a pump and tyre levers in case you get a flat. Repair at home.
A small multi tool with the hex keys to fit your bike is also useful in case anything rattles loose.
A bag is useful too.
I don't rate helmets. Drivers often pass helmeted riders closer.

A mini pump will keep you rolling until you get home (within reason!) if you have a slow puncture. I also have electrical tape - I've used it for taping loose spokes to another spoke but it can come in useful as a temporary fix for a few things (you'll know it when it happens!)
Happy riding!

I would recommend a small toolkit. It doesn't have to be fancy - my hex keys came free with flat pack furniture. But look at what you would be confident to fix yourself. Dropped chain is the big one - you might not need tools but, if you have a chain guard, that might need removing.

I need the bike riders to tell me what are the absolute bare minimum accessories I need for the bike. Alternatively, besides the helmet, what's one thing you purchased for Bike riding that has been a life saver?

It's now up to ~100 comments. Please comment. This rule would also ban DACA recipients from being eligible for insurance through the marketplace. As it stands now, DACA recipients are only eligible in a handful or states...this would block them across the board.
The HHS rule banning trans care from many ACA plans is open for public comment now. Only 3 comments so far.

Embarrassing how the media is completely ignoring this. There's likely over 200,000 trans people on ACA plans (1% of 24 million)

How many of you thought you were radical but now realize you're more of an incrementalist? This is not a rhetorical or question to then judge you. I'm really curious because I've had to interrogate myself about it.
