We don’t spend enough time talking about how massively increasing wealth inequality has insulated our oligarchic class not just from consequences but from reality, too. This is true whether we’re talking about Thiel ranting about the anti Christ of Summers trying to coerce a grad student.

I went to ONE interview conference before COVID, and while my interviews were in hotel rooms, they had been specifically arranged as meeting rooms with round tables brought in and the bed stood up vertically against the wall.
The modern era is a vast improvement even over that.

If you are not in academia, you might not know this, but job interviews used to be held at conferences IN HOTEL ROOMS. Women candidates in a hotel room alone with often all-male committees. People sitting on beds! The horror stories I've heard.
I thing I sometimes thing about is that university departments were still doing job interviews in hotel rooms in the mid aughts

Read the whole thread, but this is key. Invest less in messaging and more in messengers, forever.
And while gifted leaders can sometimes accomplish this with rhetoric, the most reliable methods are rooted in ongoing face-to-face relationships, within organizations whose purposes are *not* directly political. The target audience is not “usual suspects” who already show up to political meetings.

Dishwashers also get substantially hotter than any hand washing will ever do. Dishes from the dishwasher are more sanitized!
Friendly reminder that dishwashers made after 1995 or so are so water and energy efficient that even if you ran them twice fully loaded it would still use less water than handwashing the same load.
So many "green" things feel like sacrifices. Dishwashers are not one of them.
