The first few pages of Shawn’s new project, “Stella Starchild In: The Youniversal Truth,” were received with overwhelming negativity from former Red Ring fans.

This public letter from Shawn, addressed to the anti-Shawn mockery forum “Friends of Switchy,” made his feelings clear.

It’s a shame how many former fans neglected to really take in the message, instead starting long (and inevitably childish) discussions about Shawn wanting to be squashed underfoot like the switch depicted 🤦

I remember folks pointing out that Shawn’s “parody” was actually just a word-for-word recreation of an actual Sweetie Beeps and he made a whole locked forum thread (including pasted SCOTUS opinions) about how his direct copy fell under “fair use”

The “grandma died” entry was making fun of Stephenson’s wife getting cancer and him doing some crowdfunding for treatment. Messed up even for Tuckley

Red Ring of Death #35, “Metroid Prime 2 Was The Best Metroid By Far,” circa 2006. One of Shawn’s first broad swipes at a contemporary webcomic artist, and certainly not the last. Some might call this a little mean spirited (including the cartoonist he targeted), but hey, funny is funny!

One of Shawn's many proposed T-shirt designs, circa 2008. Never released due to complaints from Shawn's partner at the time.

Red Ring of Death #3,889, “All Dead.. All Dead..”, circa 2015. The final of Shawn’s Ouya-related strips, released right after the system was discontinued and Julie Uhrman left the company. I don’t love posting “Dark Ages”-era strips, but feel it was necessary here.

Red Ring of Death #1,864, “Instant Upgrade,” circa 2013. Perhaps even more controversial than his last Ouya strip, this comic reignited the fan outcry about Shawn's financial relationship with the Ouya. This led to a long, contentious thread in the Gamer Nation forums.

Red Ring of Death #1,412, “Resetting An Entire Industry,” circa 2012. Possibly the single most controversial strip in Red Ring’s decade-long run. Despite an intense fan outcry, Shawn to this day denies that he had any financial stake in the Ouya, and that this was not an ad.

Red Ring of Death #27, “I Need To Take A Wii,” circa 2006. People tend to forget how strange the name "Wii" sounded back when it was first announced. What a fun trip down memory lane!

Red Ring of Death #118, “Don’t You Wish? Vol. 5,” circa 2007. A hilarious joke at the expense of so called “chick flicks” that many of us guys have had to sit through! A fun reminder of Shawn’s incredible cartooning talents at his peak.

If you believe the court testimony of several people, it inspired more than that.

RIP Dick Cheney! Thanks for shooting your friend- it inspired Shawn Tuckley to write some hilarious strips!
Red Ring of Death #111, “Little Bush & His Big Dick,” circa 2007. Shawn here once again shows that he has no fear of skewering those in power - not even the then-sitting President of the United States! Thank you Shawn!!

On the one hand, did we maybe assume the worst of Shawn, treat him worse than he deserved? Sure, but you have to admit, this looked real bad when the prosecutor presented it as state's evidence

I recall a lot of people using that "even a broken clock is right twice a day" phrase the day this one originally dropped. MGS2 was still very much seen as "the bad one" back then.

as i recall there was a particularly nasty bit of fallout when shawn publicly reverse-engineered the full name and address of a forum poster who said that the tuckley gestalt page was “a remarkably candid likeness of the artist,” though frankly i’m not even sure it was meant negatively

I believe that biblically accurate angel with absolutely no likeness to Shawn, a point I stress out of fear, is still used as a sort of patron saint of particularly violent MRA groups, which I must stress even harder Shawn himself never interacted with or negotiated a sponsorship to make bail with.
