I know everyone is excited about Murderbot but I just have to throw a shout-out to the Books of Raksura by @marthawells.com

Just finished book 1 and it was really great. Like keeping me from sleeping great.

This whole thread….
Right now, for a lot of Canadians the temptation is to ignore Indigenous people because the threats from the US seem way more important. This turn to fervent and ignorant nationalism is a mistake. Don't alienate the people who know more about your "country" than you do. Find common cause instead.

The hush of winter lingers but

Candle flames flicker like the first whispers of spring, banishing winter’s hush.

Milk, white, rich, and sacred, flows in tribute to life stirring beneath the frost.

Birch, the tree of beginnings, stands watch at the threshold of change.

I had to go back and doublecheck I hadn’t already shared the article, before resharing this with daanis’ thoughts included….

Kelly is always interesting, her analysis worth considering, this piece is no exception. Mangione as a floating signifier, somebody whose action isn't necessarily something we would condone but something that has various meanings depending on who you are.

One might call this development “a morbid symptom” of a late-stage sickness.

When I joined bluesky, one of the first accounts I went looking for, hoping to find their presence here, was this one.

Their writing and thinking always pushes me out of my comfort zone in the best possible way.
In the stories of Nanabush, he has three brothers. One becomes a friend, the other two are killed by his own hand. What do these stories teach us about how to respond to an unjust world without losing our hearts in the process?

Nanabush and his brothers To recap: Nokomis got shoved off the moon by her sisters and fell to earth, landing in a lake where she pouted for a while until a bear convinced her to come up for air. He...

Beautiful list of local independent bookstores (and maps!)….

Remember that even if they don’t have the book you want on the shelf, they can order it in for you.
I live in Ottawa. I buy all my books from the handful of independent bookstores still found in our neighbourhoods across the city.
La librairie du soleil.
Perfect Books.
Books on Beechwood.
Singing Pebble.
Octopus.
Black Squirrel.
World of Maps.
Please, if you are able, support Independent bookshops.

They are the literary & social hubs of our high streets and communities.

Without their continued support, we simply wouldn't be around to publish .

Thank you.
