Author @nikostratis.com tells @rebelgrrlraechel.bsky.social about protest music being bad, why men should all transition and that, contrary to popular belief, she is not writing about Steely Dan.
‘The Dad Rock That Made Me a Woman’ remixes its author's transformative life moments | Xtra Magazine
In her new book, Stratis asks an age-old question: Is dad rock for everyone, or is everyone a dad?

It is always such a pleasure to talk to @nikostratis.com and it was especially lovely to talk about her *wonderful* new book. If you want to read absolutely beautiful prose on the impact of music on our lives (our relationships, our gender, our labor, our land), this is a book for you. <3

Finished 'Rust Belt Femme' by @rebelgrrlraechel.bsky.social. A gift from a dear friend, I know Jolie's landscape as it was much my own, and I appreciate the ways she contextualizes her history in that panorama. It's a good memoir. I had to put it down after a couple of the chapters to chew on it.

One year ago today, Aaron Bushnell set himself on fire at the gate of the Israeli embassy in Washington, DC as an act of protest against the ongoing genocide of Palestinians in Gaza.

In this memorial, we share Aaron’s summary of his anarchist politics, with testimony from his close friends.

Random request but now that I’m back on this app maybe it can be helpful to my book research: I’m looking for a copy of Anita Bryant’s 1978 interview with Playboy. It’s paywalled and I don’t think my research fund will cover a playboy subscription.😬 anyone?

Syllabus planning is making me really miss the old Twitter. I was content to not be active on anything like this again, but now I’m like….who do I ask where I can find an essay that expands or challenges Jack Halberstam’s “transgender look” chapter for my Queering Media class? 😞

Trying to set the tone on this page is feeling harder since my partner & I are navigating his brain cancer treatment. So, here's my first post to say: inevitable bummer/cancer posts ahead, but also I like being smart! & making dirty jokes! & niche subculture music nostalgia! #ThisClubHasEverything
