Going to see Hamnet later. I didn't like the book much, nor the play, but I do very much like Jessie Buckley and Paul Mescal, so let's see if it's third time lucky!

Agree. Agree. Agree.
this is a good thread. Use your whiteness for good. ✌🏾
I often refer to myself as a Daywalker among MAGA assholes. For those who only know me as my PFP, I look like this (taken last weekend). So I can confirm what Ms Gandy says as true. When I wear contacts and my wraparounds, the shit these people will say to me... (The dog is my brother’s.)

We are burning every bridge and don’t care about humanity. We are done without allies. Without a diverse population.

After being held in two of them as a boy, I fought for decades urging America to never again build concentration camps and put human beings in them. It breaks my heart to watch this happen twice now in my own lifetime.

You don't murder people for using the word "kidnapper" (which, I'll add, is an accurate description of grabbing people and locking them up without due process.)

If you do, you're a fascist.
Bovino: "When politicians, community leaders, & some journalists engage in that heated rhetoric we keep talking about, when they make the choice to vilify law enforcement calling law enforcement 'Gestapo' or using the term 'kidnapping,' that is a choice & there are actions & consequences."

Respectfully, I am going to whisper to some of our white comrades a truth that should be more widely known: You definitely have some ancestors to be proud of, ancestors who refused white supremacy, and poured out their lives in many of these struggles over time.

Time to claim your true history.

ICE ended up returning the man, Saly, after realizing he’s a fucking US citizen with no criminal record, per his sister-in-law. These fucking animals.

ICE admits that up to 50% of arrests in its Chicago raids are "collateral.” These aren't statistics. They are parents taken from their children, neighbors taken from our communities. When does a "collateral" U.S. citizen child's trauma matter? This isn't law enforcement; it's a campaign of terror.

wtf. Treat people like crap and then shame them for not being gracious for the abuse?
The Vice President of the United States used his social media page to tell Joy Reid, a private citizen with no connection to the government, that she should express "gratitude" for how this country has treated her.

Black women remain the most consistent targets in all of this.

This country became the wealthy nation it is today because the institution of slavery and the oppressive system that has always pushed all people of color. There was absolutely nothing good about slavery. It was cruel and deadly. It was human trafficking and it separated families and generations.

Just to reiterate: What this administration is doing right now is orders of magnitude more dangerous for academic freedom and free speech than anything the right has spent the last 30 years complaining about.
Faculty who wrote to defend their president and object to a DOJ investigation of their university...are now being investigated by the DOJ.
The most banal defense of free speech and academic freedom will trigger the full wrath of the US government now.

I'm not a legal scholar, however it'll be interesting how institutions (if they had backbones) could use statements to say they are targeted based on assumptions of individual political beliefs.

They are saying out loud conservatives will target a university that appears to have progressives.
Linda McMahon on Columbia settlement: "This is a monumental victory for conservatives who wanted to do things on these elite campuses for a long time because we had such far left-leaning professors."

Worth putting it on the record here, though you probably already know it: “Alligator Alcatraz” is a concentration camp.
Hmm, let’s see… mass detention of civilians without trial or traditional legal protections on the basis of identity (race, religion, ethnicity, political affiliation) rather than any criminal act, often for an indefinite period and done principally to expand political power. Check.
