New research by @imbernomics.bsky.social and colleagues using Texas data dives into different economic returns to college majors by race and gender. There are differences in the share of students going into high-paying fields, as well as earnings within those fields.

I would have chuckled at this years ago. Today, there is no laughter, as this may be foreshadowing.
Spring semester starting so need to know whether faculty are allowed to say in class that Greenland is ruled by Denmark.

I will add, I despise academics utilizing this phrase!
Casual reminder that the myth of “pulling yourself up by your bootstraps” is a cruel hoax designed to convince poor people from all walks of life that the injustices they face are a result of their own actions, rather than an oppressive system rigged against them.

I said UNC is a testing ground for new policies. I hope people are watching.

Going home for the holiday 😞..

"An FBI agent speaking to a local rotary club noted that as long as the task force is operating, just about everyone in Memphis can expect to be pulled over at some point. The latest figures show more than 4,000 arrests and nearly 200 people charged by the feds."

Each year the threat levels get higher, and reality is setting in this may be a hazard zone. 😕

Boston has a solid reputation when it comes to racial discrimination. I can tell you, this ain't it! 😒
The Department of Housing and Urban Development said Thursday that it was opening an investigation into housing policies in Boston, scrutinizing whether the city discriminated against white people.

I have been yelling about this in a void. As a higher ed prof, I feel like we get little attention from other disciplines raising the alarm. The summer of UNC was a huge wake up call!

As a professor in 2025, I feel we’re battling a concerning trend in our country. Millions consume content suggesting that "cultures" aren't of equal value, implying a lack of value for certain people. This contradicts much of our research and teaching.
Fox News' Will Cain: "I’m sure there are very honorable law-abiding upstanding citizens and contributors from the Somali community here in the United States, BUT..."

He goes on to say "we aren’t going to pretend here that all cultures are of equal value or the same."

Things will get worse before they get better. I am under no illusion that we have hit rock bottom.

Instructors/faculty are losing protection across the country. The OU situation is interesting in this climate. If the instructor is vindicated, they will potentially have lost privacy and the ability to have a normal teaching career at OU. This feels like they are guilty, until proven innocent.

To get funding, FSU faculty have to attest that the conference they want to attend doesn’t “advantage” a particular racial or ethnic group and that their presentation doesn’t suggest that one group has “inherently or structurally oppressed other groups.”

This is true; however, it appears those who should/can make reform happen are off doing their own thing. Those of us in the TT pipeline, postdocs, & PHD students will have little to no voice in this change. Department chairs, Associate Professors, & Full Professors need to unite like the Avengers.

Some schools will be starved of resources. Other schools will be offered bribes. The end goal is the same. To make the universities an extension of the Trump administration. Shame on any of these institutions willing to take the bribes.
