Stop pretending that the authoritarian repression is BECAUSE of the problems in {higher education, the media, the law, government, immigration policy, etc.}. This is what authoritarians do. If they didn't focus on these justifications, they'd come up with other ones.

i keep reading statements from democrats saying they find mahmoud khaleil's views to be abhorrent and despicable before going on to say that he should nonetheless be given due process. but no one has been able to demonstrate what khaleil's views are beyond the admin's assertions. except for cnn:

Have to respect the effort. Most people who'd killed thousands of old people and covered it up—or diverted state funds to produce their multimillion-dollar book, or conspired to keep their own party out of power, or groped countless unwilling women—would be satisfied they'd already hit bottom.
