Everyone you have ever met will die one day. In fact, many already have.

If you're old enough, most of the people you will ever meet have already died.

There are some people who speak of God in a way that makes me believe he is real. There are others who pursue him so relentlessly that I think he must be real. But very rarely does mere conviction have that effect.

Every life is a tragedy and a miracle in one.

There is no more conventional wisdom.

It has been replaced by the thrill of uncovering hidden truth.

Virtually everyone “indoctrinates” their children because children, by nature, will believe anything their parents tell them. Even if parents tell them to weigh each side carefully, this is an ideological approach to life that not everyone has but their child will accept readily.

🧵time— I’m gonna go on a limb here, but before I do, I want to make clear I’m not trying to justify or endorse any of the ideas in this discourse, ESPECIALLY the main character on Twitter that sparked all this.

Basically, I don’t think this post is right or wrong.

Racism actually is baked into our psyche. It's just another form of tribalism, which is (yes) a social norm but an evolved one.

Races differ in their strengths and weaknesses, as do the sexes, and every other division in society down to actual individuals.

The "reject modernity" movement which criticizes indulgence replaces it with an empty fetishization of strength, directed nowhere (but to more indulgence).

Social mores were never intended to be optimal for the individual. Yet modernity's argument against them is always anecdotal.
