ive found that my own textbook gave a general guideline that is mostly true. where it doesn't immediately make sense you can make it work if you take into account semantic drift from what it may have originally meant once upon a time

Ceteris paribus, I expect to sell 180 paperbacks for 10 GBP and net 1800 GBP income. I also expect to sell 100 fancy notebooks for 18 GBP and earn the same 1800. Scale these numbers up by a few million paperbacks and fancy notebooks et voilà the publishing industry.
Does anyone else find it crazy that you can walk into a bookshop and be charged £9.99 for a paperback novel that took the author a year to complete, but £17.99 for a completely blank notebook?
