In 1841 #Berlin's city border measured exactly 20,090 steps. We know this thanks to the indefatigable Dr Hermann Wollheim who took it upon himself to circumnavigate the city on foot before writing his endlessly fascinating "Attempt at Medical & Statistical Topography of Berlin".

#OTD 1874 Berlin's famous Königlich Preußische Eisengießerei (Royal Prussian Iron Foundry) in Invalidenstr. 92 (now 43) closed down after 70 years of service. In that time it produced not only Prussian Iron Cross orders (intr. 1813 by King Friedrich Wilhelm III) & weights, chains & bridges🧵 (1)
