For those who don’t know what NCEP EMC does, they run our numerical weather prediction models on supercomputers, and do research on how to improve those models. The forecast on your smartphone is probably derived from a model that they ran. www.emc.ncep.noaa.gov/emc.php

The Bay Area weather radar (KMUX) has been out of service for more than 24 hours now. An expensive broken part needs to be replaced and specially ordered, but that may not be possible due to ongoing freeze on government credit card spending, I’ve been told.

Musk’s status as a “special government employee” limits him to 130 days in the executive branch. However, despite working daily—documented by his own X posts—they claim he only works one day a week, effectively stretching his limit to 130 weeks. This needs to be brought to Congress—please share.

Most probationary (least than a year) people in the federal government were summarily fired yesterday without cause. That, I have learned, includes several of my former students who were just starting their careers because people like fire meteorologists here in the West are just "a waste of money."
