Here's a prototype for map travel in my text-adventure rpg #Disintegrity.
I still need to find the correct balance between conveying the scale of the world and not annoying the player too much.

My hottest take:

I do not think that fictional characters should have human rights. There is, in fact, no limit to what should be allowed to happen to them, on account of them being not real and imaginary.

I'm using a simple model based on Robert Plutchik's wheel of emotions to track NPC attitudes towards the player.
It makes NPC interaction meaningful and enables a broad space for behavior while keeping the scope manageable.

Yesterday, the Epic Games Store decided at the last minute not to distribute the game, after having previously approved a release build. HORSES is otherwise now available on GOG, Itch, and Humble for $4.99. www.horses.wtf

The wonderful games by @jumpovertheage.com convinced me that you can make video games that feel like TTRPGs. I recently started to give it a try myself!

Here's a first look at the current prototype of "Disintegrity". A postapocalyptic text-adventure rpg.

Deciding whether an overhaul is necessary or feature bloat; if keeping it is practical or just sunk-cost fallacy is one of the hardest thing in coding for me.

Afterwards I tend second guess that choice for quite a while, but once it clicks into place it's easy to see if it was worth it.

You know that feeling when you're 90% done and decide to start over? Yeah, that. Complete visual overhaul for the SHMUP project. Everything is fine.

Why waste time coding enemy AI, when you can just forget to remove the projectile from the enemy's collision mask?

I sincerely wouldn't have known where to start building a narrative text-adventure if it weren't for @inkle.co's "ink" framework.

I'm still figuring out the details of how I'll get it to do what I want, but I learn something new every day!
