Let's take a little break with some love advice from Kaye Ballard, who I understand was campaigning to play Fanny Brice in Funny Girl before Streisand was cast.

It's actually a great song and Ballard had a v. good voice!

This morning at Jack London State Park.
I keep saying I’m tired of being cold, but sometimes you bottle up and embrace it.
I’m trying to catch a friend admit to a murder she did not commit and did not happen. This is how we pass the time.

Non-sequitur Sunday:
Another Spratling piece of Taxco sterling. It was going to be my first "big" purchase but the seller was a jerk + sold it from under me. Years later I found it at auction, badly tarnished but it cleaned up well and I got the rare deal.

The holiday Rancho Gordo order has arrived, but it looks like I won't be unpacking the beans, pozole and pineapple vinegar anytime soon if Naima has anything to say about it.

Made a healing pot of fasolada, a Greek white bean stew. Used Rancho Gordo Royal Corona beans, which are ginormous. I love this soup. Part of tomorrow’s Feast of the Seven Legumes.

As we continue this cold snap here in NorCal, I find myself upping the thermostat. Generally I keep it low but as I turn it up, I hear in my head, "President Nixon suggest keeping it below 68F". And then I hear "President Carter declared the energy crisis the moral equivalent of war." I AM OLD.

Our new Napa store on Main Street won't open before Christmas, as planned, but we're looking right on track for January. It's almost encouraging!

I loved the French film, the taste of things. A friend recommended and any movie that has 25 minutes with little dialogue and zero plot beyond intricate food preparations has my heart.

It’s really great and moving and I defy you not to want to pull out your copper pots. On Hulu.

I've been struck with something that I wouldn't want to share so this has been canceled.

FOr most people, colds are not such a big deal but for me, one who rarely gets ill, I'd a bit dramatic and feeling as if I'm on death's door. Pray for me and we will reschedule.

Leftovers made magical: Our Calif white rice reheated with some broth. Creamy Ayocote Blancos with sautéed greens (a mild chard from Italy and a wee bit of sorrel), and roasted cherry tomatoes. A perfect lunch.
