Listening to the appeals court asking questions about the Portland National Guard deployment dispute, and I'm struck that the 504 sit ins would have been infinitely stronger of a 'rebellion' than what's happening at ICE.

hey, wasn't Andy Ngo's prior lawyer elevated to a position in the DoJ specifically to defend the rights of Christians that have been persecuted for their beliefs?

Think I found a worthy case for her to investigate. What's that? The department she works for is -defending- the attacks?

Huh, funny.
NEW: I spoke to clergy and faith leaders who've joined protests at the Chicago-area ICE facility.

Three say they've been shot with pepper balls, sometimes while praying.

All say ICE is also violating their religious freedom, and one is arguing it in court. religionnews.com/2025/10/07/i...

Buried later in this is what I expected California to do: They are now asking the courts to intervene in their case where the courts sided with Trump on the need for the Guard in California, claiming they can't be that needed if Trump is moving them out of state'

So let me get this straight, Portland is a war zone that requires hundreds of federalized soldiers to patrol, entirely focused around one city block where the ICE detention facility is. The same block that was able to successfully host a public protest while Homeland Secretary Kristi Noem relaxed

Oh, they really did not take the TRO news well.

Also, it's a girl?
Feds just deployed a bunch of pink gas at protesters in Portland. They also arrested a protester and carried them into the building.

Here's where my brain sits. The judge just said 'no federalized troops from any state or DC. Guam and Puerto Rico aren't states but have territory based National Guard units.

Are they going to be that stupid?

Serious question for Katie, how is someone supposed to apologize to their victim if they didn't show up to court and there's a no contact order?

And why do you think they would be sympathetic to their mother when your boss is own reporting shows that they despise everything about their child.

Sentence handed down. Actually stronger than predicted, but not by much. 12 months bench probation, 7 days jail (suspended), 24 hours community service, no contact with victim Almosa and no carrying of mace/pepper spray/deleterious agents during probation. More will come out later.

Not that it will change anything, but Andy Ngo keeps referring to Araoju as 'violent'

It's worth noting that she was convicted for 'Attempted' assault.

In the jury's view of the evidence ... she failed at being violent.

Verdict read after about 3 1/2 hours of deliberation

Count 1: Assault in the Fourth Degree - Not guilty
Alternative: Attempted Assault in the Fourth Degree - Guilty
Count 2: Unlawful use of mace - Guilty

Sentencing set for next Thursday. Will give a little more detail later.

We're back on track. Missed a good bit of oral arguments in pre-trial, but I don't think any major rulings were made while I was incommunicado.

Still have process concerns re: court access and disabled people, but that's a me thing to sort.

Massive hiccup with the court coverage today. Judge Brown apparently instituted a policy for her courtroom requiring me to request permission for electronic note taking the day before.

Hard to do when the judge only got assigned the day before, and I didn't find out until I was out of time.
