A huge aspect of the death of public media affiliates I'm concerned about is the end of public service oriented programming, such as long-form interviews with local politicians or broadcasting community meetings. Public media stations cover many things commercial media do not. That's a huge loss.

The turnout in small towns across the country has been incredible drawing crowds of thousands. We’re already seeing over one million in attendance nationwide, and events are still underway. Florida, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Ohio all had especially surprising showings.
