Not even a full five years, that’s how swift and intense this backlash has been. They want us to know what our place is.
"Rep. Andrew Clyde, R-Ga., introduced legislation earlier this week that gave D.C. an ultimatum: either paint over the slogan or risk losing federal funding. The bill also called for the area in downtown D.C. to be re-named from Black Lives Matter Plaza to Liberty Plaza."

Over the past five years, Washington, D.C.'s iconic Black Lives Matter street painting has served as a powerful symbol of activism and a gathering place for joy and resistance.

I will never stop being mad about how the media has treated the anti-trans movement as a group of ordinary people with legitimate concerns rather than the obvious frothing bigots they are.
ABC White House correspondent just released ANOTHER anti-trans EO expected that we did not cover in our piece this morning:

A federal ban on funding to programs that acknowledge and affirm transgender people.

These executive orders on banning federally funded entities from recognizing trans people or disallowing them from using the bathroom are not self-executing or immediately enforceable. They require formal rule making at a minimum. They are a scare tactic. Ignore and do not comply in advance.

I studied the last 10 years of abortion depictions, analyzing the 23 (yes, only 23!) characters portrayed parenting while obtaining an abortion. I found that these narratives are meaningfully different than storylines that focus on childfree characters.

This will be a VERY LONG and ongoing thread focused entirely on empirical evidence. 🧵

Goodnight Jimmy Carter. You were a model of what an ideal president should look like, & a selfless, giving, & compassionate person. You were also among the 1st people to mind whenever I thought of what it ought to mean to be a non-proselytizing Christian. I truly hope more of us match your kindness.

we're gonna get a lot of mileage out of the word feckless these coming years
Sorry, @hakeemjeffries.bsky.social, Trump’s cabinet is not a distraction, and the public has a right to the Gaetz report even if Republicans on the Ethics Committee decide to be partisan, and cover up a child sex trafficking scandal.

It’s important to push back on the entire framework wherein individual academic programs are evaluated based on cash flow. Universities are *nonprofits* and the goal is to provide excellence in an educational and research ecosystem. This means some subunits *should* subsidize others.
I did not realize that West Virginia University's plans to cut its entire world languages and literature department is yet another example of supposedly "data-driven" admins eliminating a humanities program that their own data shows is a profit center:

Academia runs on volunteerism that presumes everyone has a full time stable job and ideally a spouse that either is non-working and does all the care work OR is in a highly lucrative field of employment.

It ain’t that way any more.
For many, maybe most, it never really was.
