Midwesterner in NYC. Just trying to make you proud!!! Neuroscientist, if you could believe that.

Any pronouns are fine, she/her is precedent.
I am confident in my “ready and willing to move back to Chicago” position, but my brother and parents are currently just listing street names, so there *are* also things to worry about about the prospect.

I shouldn't watch sports. It's not good for my insides.

Seems fairly clear that for a while until 2016ish, the common wisdom was that the median person was (relatively) fiscally conservative and socially liberal and the trump election revealed a flipped alignment. People want social safety nets and welfare, but in a way that benefits them.
this is just a wild thing to tweet a week after democrats won a statewide in Georgia by 20 points. completely divorced from the current electoral environment

I thought this was a really good and cogent analysis of the problem with pundits saying Dems have to moderate by @gelliottmorris.com and @onthemedia.bsky.social! www.wnycstudios.org/podcasts/otm...

I wonder, too, if the manner the info is conveyed is relevant. Had the dems *actually* talked about LGBTQ+ issues, they would have done it in a "we should support people who deserve it" way instead of a "these people absolutely don't deserve support, which is why we won't support them" way.
Yeah this drives me insane. Democrats didn't run on LGBTQ+ issues, the GOP did. By pushing anti-LGBTQ+ and lying that Democrats were campaigning on LGBTQ+.

At 11am today (Oct. 6), Columbia announced that starting at noon — 1hr later — they wouldn't be allowing students/affiliates to request guest access to campus for Oct. 6/7. Additionally, for requests made in time, the guest's presence had to be deemed "critical to the University's academic mission."

If I ran a rodeo I would give people hats that said, “not my first rodeo” on their second time at the rodeo. Just to reaffirm they’ve accomplished something.

Everyone go to the official Housing and Urban Development website (www.hud.gov) right now. Also read this article: www.thehandbasket.co/p/trump-omb-...

I saw Maris Kreizman's panel at the Brooklyn Book Fest — the BBF being one of the best things NYC has given me — on breaking down & rebuilding. A testament to this sentiment. In joke for those also there: I hope Scaachi Koul does not successfully divorce doula Maris & Josh. Everyone else, but them.
Today I looked at the New York Times homepage a couple of times. And then I hung out at the Brooklyn Book Fest and saw thousands of people out and about and talking about books. Sometimes it’s much too easy to forget how many of us there are.

I've re-thought and while the below is true, the hypocracy is well-tread. I more want to frame it as, all this suggestion of Kirk as "doing it the right way," etc. insinuates that he is in contrast to those doing it the wrong way, but who are these people? What are these wrong politics?
Two, it's a total double standard. Hasan Piker, who regularly engages w/ ppl from the other end of the political spectrum, would never be considered "doing it the right way" or "a polite young man" by the right. A leftist, a liberal even, couldn't speak w/ any tone & have it be considered measured.

Not entirely sure why this post made me think of this, but two points: One, Kirk was not particularly polite. He was polite relative to, like, screaming, but he regularly denigrated and belittled people to their faces and not in a clever way. Ad hominem attack, etc.
Really think normie rage is an underrated factor in 21st century politics

People are pissed that they’re told to pander

I'm generally a fan of Hobbes' and this will come off as overly extreme, but this take feels...like it comes from a place of questionable reasoning and motivation.
Not to be The Defender of Straight Men or anything but this just seems like a long-winded and mean-spirited way to say that you're bisexual and met a same-sex partner.

Oh, this makes me think of so many things. For one, the nature of "work." What is "work" when decoupled from product and service? I think about this a lot as someone who also has an insular "use your brain"/"figure something out" job and not a "deliver a good" job.
You don’t see articles like this about moms with three jobs who still manage to take care of their kids.

Incredible news!! I have been missing the @endocrinesociety.bsky.social as a homebase since my transition to epigenetics and a big part of why is the community Lori built and supported there. Academic science feels bleak right now, but Lori is a laureate 😎💪.
Huge congratulations to Dr Lori Raetzman on being the winner of the Sidney Ingbar award for distinguished service. 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

it doesn't seem like too much to ask for at least a brief moratorium on "centrist" Dems knifing their own party members while Trump is attempting to pass the worst piece of legislation since the Fugitive Slave Act
