Here’s the reality: children sexually abused by family members are being sent right back to their abusers by family courts.

So much needs to change. How I wish my abuser - my father - had been removed from the home. He was not. #CSA #ChildSexualAbuse #familycourts

Looking forward to meeting with both @cateccles.bsky.social and Jess Phillips to ensure that coercive control forms a key part of domestic abuse training.

when you stop reading "believe women" as "women never lie" and see it as "one of the foundational myths of patriarchy is that women can never be trusted" it makes a lot more sense.

Coercive control is a continuous cycle, it is always happening, it's never a one off. It is often difficult to identify coercive control as abuse and even with physical violence, you don't put the two together.

Coercive control happens long before any physical violence occurs.

Coercive control takes away a person's identity.

Intimidation, isolation and emotional abuse are tactics used by a perpetrator to exert power and control, gradually eroding the survivors sense of self worth.

You become programmed to exist, existing on autopilot to stay alive.

It is no coincidence that a man jailed for repeatedly kicking his girlfriend is now an MP in the House of Commons and the US president elect has been found liable for sexual assault. The normalisation of VAWG comes hand in hand with chauvinistic language on display in the hard right

I’ve created a (currently very small!) Starter Pack specifically listing experts by experience, researchers, practitioners and policy makers working to end economic abuse (globally). Please share, make suggestions and tag yourself if that’s you and I will update as we go.

This is a legal blog about a family court case reported so well by Lara Feigel for @right2equality.bsky.social It portrays beautifully and sensitively the huge human cost of the proceedings for survivors and the harsh process and the unrealistic world created by the adversarial system.
'I'm Telling the Truth' : Part 1

#LaraFeigel shows us why change is needed in family courts. Things many survivors face in private family law proceedings are often unable to be shared publicly.

We want to share with you some common themes:

If we aren't talking about coercive control we aren't talking about domestic abuse because it's there at the beginning and it's there at the end.

Domestic abuse is about power and control, not physical violence alone.

Could you possibly help me to reach more people on Bluesky?🤞💙
