Merry Christmas! Tonight when I light the Channukah candles I’ll remember the brave folks who fought and are fighting their Maccabees- the #metoo women, Rosa Parks, the Umkhonto we Sizwe soldiers, Giselle Pellicot, the people of Gaza, the protective mothers in the family courts and so many more 1/3

Significant development this morning in how family courts in England and Wales should deal with so-called 'parental alienation', which has been used to counter allegations of domestic abuse.

It is really good to see that the new FJC guidance draws on the 3R model formulated by the US National Council of Juvenile and Family Court Judges, and endorsed by our Domestic Abuse Commissioner in her 2023 report

On a personal note I’m very sad to report that my precious little Maya is in hospital with a large lump that may be a tumour. After surviving an attack by a pitbull 2 months ago this is really a cruel twist of fate 😢

“It actually doesn’t matter.”

That’s Richard Tice’s response when asked about the court’s findings on Reform MP James McMurdock’s assault.

Tice sides with McMurdock’s version, dismissing the court’s judgement. By defending him, Tice undermines justice and harms victims. It’s about accountability.

Richard Tice says he does not believe James McMurdock, who was convicted of assaulting his then girlfriend in 2006, should not be "doomed as sinner forever" because the UK is a "Christian" country.

This is a legal blog about a family court case reported so well by Lara Feigel for @right2equality.bsky.social It portrays beautifully and sensitively the huge human cost of the proceedings for survivors and the harsh process and the unrealistic world created by the adversarial system.
'I'm Telling the Truth' : Part 1

#LaraFeigel shows us why change is needed in family courts. Things many survivors face in private family law proceedings are often unable to be shared publicly.

We want to share with you some common themes:

In honour of #CSAsurvivorSky please can the family courts recognise that #CSA exists, it happens, & it's not the invention or delusion of 'malicious mothers'. Today it's the Anglican church scandal & the real Cleveland scandal, tomorrow it will be the family court scandal, we must listen to children

Lady Hale in 1999: ‘The most troubling aspect of my perception is that some women are being pursued and oppressed by controlling or vengeful men with the full support of the system.’ 25 years later it's even worse, via the 'parental alienation' belief system. Legislation & accountability is needed.
